legin Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012 Hi I hope I'm not repeating a thread but I've looked through and can't find any thing similar to my problem so hear goes! I run a 52 plate C5 2.2 hdi auto estate and recently have been having trouble starting the engine. When turning the ignition on there is a pause before the starter motor works, sometimes a second other times up to 10 seconds but whenever the starter engages the engine will fire. All dash lights and display stay as normal but the heater display goes out while the ignition key is turned until the motor kicks in.Once has the starter not worked after 10 seconds but did when I turned the ignition on and off quickly 3or4 times and the engine started.Any advice. Many thanks <_< Quote
paul.h Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012 Not seen this one before. Could the contacts in the ignition switch or maybe the contacts in the starter motor solenoid need a clean or a relay ? Quote
coastline taxis Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012 Get a test light and place it on the solenoid witre on the starter (8mm nut) and get some one to turn the key and see if it lights up in time with the key. If it does then your problem isnt the starter. then just go thru the other suggestions that paul has put on Quote
coastline taxis Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012 sorry put that the wrong way round if it lights up whenever you turn the key then the fault is in your starter Quote
legin Posted May 9, 2012 Author Posted May 9, 2012 ok thanks for the info,I will take a look tomorrow> Quote
legin Posted May 12, 2012 Author Posted May 12, 2012 Had a go at removing the starter but no joy.Kwik fit took it out and the solinoid was faulty.New motor on for £221. Quote
coastline taxis Posted May 12, 2012 Posted May 12, 2012 WOW thats a nasty price. we charge 20 for fitting and we can get starter fully reconed with 12 months waranty for 65 making a totol of £85 Quote
DaveHerns Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 I'm surprised Kwik Fit can fit a starter on a C5 ! Quote
