sirdrinksalot Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Right. i have a2005 ch estate vtr.Wanted to change to interior for a leather one.collected it yesterday.the plug on the origanal are totaly different to the leather ones which are electric.does anybody have any experiance in changeing the seats over and what wires do what.cheers Quote
DaveHerns Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Is your car a "facelift" model and the seats from an earlier model ? I'm looking to do the same so the answer will be helpful Quote
sirdrinksalot Posted July 1, 2012 Author Posted July 1, 2012 Bugger. Thought that quick response was an answer. The guy I bought from did say that the plugs are different so would have to be " cut " and joined. Dont look forward to that but as long as I can get the correct wire I'll be fine. Quote
paul.h Posted July 8, 2012 Posted July 8, 2012 (edited) The parts diagrams on the service.citroen site show the wiring connectors at the seats are a short section to other connectors possibly inside the seat. The manual and electric seats have different part nos for these short sections. It may be part of these other connectors are the same on the electric and manual seats (I do not know) to cover the air bags and whatever lets the car know the seat is occupied - if so, then the electric seat parts may just need a 12 volt supply and the car may already be wired up for this, the loom runs down the left sill (accessed by pulling up the plastic sill cover). On the mark 2 C5, the fused supply for the electric seats is one of the G fuses on the yellow permanent (direct from the battery via a maxi fuse) supply inside the glovebox fuse box (see car handbook). However, if you do end up cutting wires for the air bags in the seats it is probably best to solder them and use shrink insulation over the joints. Obviously disconnect the car battery before doing any disconnections and reconnections and reconnect the battery with nobody in the car in case an air bag goes off. When I wired the towbar on our mark 2 estate, the yellow strip has a 12 volt towbar supply with a thick beige wire to the back of the car, fuse G36. For the supply for the trailer lights, I used a spare supply from the yellow strip by pushing in a spade connector into the top hole for the fuse and crimped to the wire with a fuse to the towbar - these give possibilties for a supply for the electric seats if it is not already there. sirdrinksalot Posted July 9, 2012 Author Posted July 9, 2012 Thanks Paul. Gives me a bit more of a clue. Quote
sirdrinksalot Posted July 10, 2012 Author Posted July 10, 2012 I don't suppose you have an idea of the wires in the autodim rear view mirror. My car has the standard mirror I've got an autodim from an exclusive. Quote
paul.h Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 From the parts diagrams the wiring loom appears to run up the left windscreen pillar to the front of the roof with 6 connectors so one of these is probably for the rear view mirror. Recently I removed the right pillar plastic trim (starting at the top just pull it towards the centre of the car to remove it) and noticed some wires running up the pillar, I am not sure but these could be for the radio/sat nav (our car is a 2007 2.2 VTX estate). I was doing this to fit a ticket clip as was on our mark 1 C5. Quote
Johndouglas Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 I was doing this to fit a ticket clip as was on our mark 1 C5. Yes Paul, I had one on my previous 2.1 Xantia and very useful it was too. Where did you get yours? Quote
paul.h Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 The ticket clip was from a Citroen dealer part no. 8328 GG with the name Pliers, cost £3.27. It can be seen on the parts diagrams for the mark 1 C5 and the C3. To fit the clip the windscreen pillar trim has to be removed since it slots in to a part of the trim which is not possible with the trim in place. You may have gathered from the above I solved my problem of wanting a heavier car for towing our caravan by getting the estate. It took a year to find one on a low enough mileage since there have been very few for sale. I was not particularly after the 2.2 hdi but it was the first estate not too far away with a lower mileage than our hatchback. Quote
Johndouglas Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 The ticket clip was from a Citroen dealer part no. 8328 GG Thanks for that. I'll pick one up. Quote
DaveHerns Posted July 22, 2012 Posted July 22, 2012 What do those in the know think of the 2.2 diesel engine as fitted to late old shape C5's and old new shapes C5' sfrom about 2007 to 2009 ? Is it the same as the earlier 2.2 lump ? Quote
paul.h Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 (edited) We have changed from a mark 1 2.2 hdi 136hp hatchback (kerb weight 1560kg inc driver) to a mark 2 2.2 hdi 173hp estate (kerb weight 1685kg inc driver) so we can better tow a heavier caravan. It does a good job and I am pleased with it (towed over 500 miles in last 2 weeks and giving about 31 mpg - not towing 45-55 on motorways - not used for short trips). So far I do not know the differences other than the newer engine has a twin turbo. This engine does not seem to have been used for long in the new C5 saloon/tourer but that may be since the later 2.0 hdi engines have nearly as much power at 160hp but better fuel economy (you can see this in the car handbooks available on the service.citroen website and the towing limits - these reduce going up hills). The new C5 is quite a bit wider than the old ones, folded mirror width is 1952mm vs about 1880mm - for us this meant we could not get one through our garage door). Maintenance wise for the new C5 saloon/tourer, there is a French ETAI manual available for the 2.0 hdi 138/140hp from such as Amazon's French site and old Citroen dvd discs can be bought from such as ebay with the parts diagrams, wiring diagrams and maintenance manuals covering all Citroens. These can also be viewed on the service.citroen site by paying but the parts diagrams are free. It will probably be years if Haynes ever produce one and then they may not cover the 2.2 hdi engine. DaveHerns Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 My 2006 C5 only goes into my garage with mirrors folded back so if a new model is wider that effectively rules it out for me Quote
Rooky1 Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the seats on a facelift c5? Found the g fuse box and want to make my own looms for the seats but wondered if anything else is in the circuits aside from direct wires to the seat plugs? Quote
paul.h Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 It may be easier to follow the wires from the fusebox which usually go down the left side of the car. Haynes and the RTA manuals do not have seat wring diagrams but they will be included in the Citroen Service box. The diagrams there require the car RPO and possibly the VIN to see them so you would need your car and the donor car RPO and VIN. The G fuses should take a direct supply from the battery via a maxi fuse. When I wired up our towbar I used the top connection of a fuse location to give a towbar supply with its own fuse by inserting a blue spade connector - that way a fuse was not put in the G fuse box and any other wiring did not become live. Rooky1 Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 Yeah that's true, I will have a look.. Need to get them in and sorted as they're taking up space in the dining room now and the missus wants rid of them. Thanks Quote
paul.h Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 Are you allowed to put the seats in the lounge and sit in them to watch the TV ? Quote
Rooky1 Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 Haha, definatley not.. They wouldn't be colour coordinated or something stupid like that Quote
MikeLane Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 I didn't think the C5 VTR (2005) had electric seats? (Mine hasn't.) Quote
Johndouglas Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 I didn't think the C5 VTR (2005) had electric seats? You're right! Wasn't even an option. Quote
MikeLane Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 I didn't think the C5 VTR (2005) had electric seats? You're right! Wasn't even an option. So the leather seats (which started this thread!) were probably from an Exclusive. As far as I can see there are no cables attached to my seats. Quote
Johndouglas Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 So the leather seats were probably from an Exclusive. AFAIK leather has only been an option on exclusive models Quote
paul.h Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 In a 2005 brochure for the C5 and as John states, leather was only an option on the exclusive and heated seats were only with the leather seats. The leather was dark grey or beige if the car was blue, ganache or green. Similarly in a 2007 brochure, except the green has gone and been replaced by nocciola. In a 2003 brochure for the mark 1 C5, all exclusives had leather seats but heating of them was an option as part of the SE pack which included sat nav and a sunroof. The beige leather came with cars that were oriental blue, hurricane grey and black. Quote
