Rod&Hod Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 I love our C5 1.6 hdi Airdream, the most rewarding car I have had, and I have had quite a few. It has been practically faultless, gives an excellent ride, adequate performance and 50+ mpg There is one silly little thing, the Eco Mode shuts down the electrics after a mere 10 mins. We like to park somewhere nice in the countryside and listen to the radio, but I have to keep starting the engine to restore the sound. This happens for the first and subsequent shut-downs, only 10 mins before its gone.Does anyine know if it can be re-programmed? Quote
DaveHerns Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 Mine does about 30 minutes before going into Eco Mode .Must depend on what is switched on and the health of the batery - ie how long it takes till the voltage drops to the critical level I assumne this is a new shape C5 with the 1.6 Hdi engine and EGS gearbox ? What do you think of it ? I was tempted by one the other week but we're not fans of the 1.6 Hdi engine on this forum and I don't like electronic manual gearboxes Quote
Johndouglas Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 Yes - my C5 does about 30 minutes of radio or CD before switching off. Also the engine needs to run for quite a while before I get another session. I seem to recall reading on this or another forum that the time could be altered by Lexia. Quote
Guest Parkesie Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 It should go into ecomode after half an hour or earlier if the battery is dying. On restarting the car and running the engine for a short period it will drop into ecomode after 2x how ever long the engine was run for, running for 5min 10min till eco. Dependant on battery state upto the half hour again. If it is going into ecomode quickly 1st suggestion before stumping up cash for a new battery is to check the condition of your terminals disconnect and clean them up and reconnect as per your owners manual. Still no better then see about checking the battery's health and replace accordingly. Hope this helps Chris Quote
Rod&Hod Posted February 17, 2013 Author Posted February 17, 2013 Thanks for replies, I hadn't considered battery voltage and thought it was some kind of electronic timer that controls the shut down on Ecomode. A bit strange as the battery seems fine, starts instantly on winter mornings. To DaveHerns the model is a 2010 1.6hdi Airdream, 5 speed manual. Perhaps I have been lucky, but speak as I find the car has been trouble free in 27k miles an gives me the ideal combination of comfort, performance and economy. I have had 60mpg on 130 mile round trips on duel carriageway roads, but 52 mpg is a more realistic figure in give and take motoring, I actually get better mpg than from my wife's C3 1.6hdi which considering the size of the C5 is pretty good.I like the styling too, parked next to the latest Jaguar it stands up very well. The way that Citroen have used the bold Citroen inverted V logo on the front end gives it a really distinctive look, no mistaking it for some anonymous far-eastern product.Must admit we are Citroen fans and have 2CV, Dyanes, AX, ZX and C3s, all have given pretty good satisfaction, if not entirely trouble free service. DaveHerns Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 All the Airdreams I've seen advertised are EGS which is what I don't want .I think our advice to you with the 1.6 engine would be to change the oil regualrly as it's prone to turbo problems Quote
Rod&Hod Posted March 3, 2013 Author Posted March 3, 2013 DaveHerns You have me there, what is EGS, is it some kind of electric assisted gear-change? I have to say the C5 manual gear-change is one of the smoothest I have had, better than the Mercedes which was my previous car. I expect it has a dual-mass flywheel which contributes, but again I am not sure about that. As for turbos, are all these 1.6hdi diesels equipped with them, if so I am not aware. My servicing is carried out by Marshalls Citroen of Cambridge and I stick to the manufacturers recommended intervals, are you saying that is not enough? I can honestly say that I enjoy driving the C5, we did a 60 mile journey yesterday on mixed roads with speeds up to 60 mph and finished with 60 mpg on the calculator, which I have previously checked and proved it gives figures pretty near the actual. The C5 does not have a spare wheel of course, but one of those tyre inflator kits. I must admit that I would not be too happy at having to deal with a puncture on country roads on a dark night. Mercifully punctures are pretty rare these days. Thanks for your interest. Quote
DaveHerns Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 EGS is an electronically controlled conventional clutch and gearbox . One more thing to go wrong , in my opinionWhat service intervals are you on and how long does it take you to cover that mileage ? If it's 12500 and it takes (for example ) 2 years to cover that , I'd be inclined to have an oil and filter change at 6000 miles . I'd hate to be without a spare wheel even though I haven't had a flat tyre for ages Quote
paul.h Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 (edited) Our C4 came with the inflation kit - we had to buy a wheel, tyre, jack, wheel brace, nut cover remover, jack tray - total about £200 before I would use the car. The CO2 levels may be a bit higher with the wheel, but at the first puncture it would be worth it. The RAC have a no call out reduction of £25 which would be lost if an inflation kit did not work, then there would be the messing around trying to get a new tyre, finding a means of lifting the car onto bricks, loss of time, etc. It also has the 1.6 hdi 110 hp engine, official servicing is 12500 miles or 2 years or 10000 miles or 1 year for arduous use - it will do about 8000 a year but I will keep to annual ones. qman3428 Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 to Rod&Hod, I dont know where you are based but I am in Lancashire at weekends and in London Mid week. I have an Airdream spare wheel with a brand new tyre on it. It has never been on a car and I will do you a good price if you want it. Quote
