Firthstly i would like to say hi to all members as im new to this site and citreons.

I have just purchased a citreon c5 2.0 hdi estate. The service light was on when i purchased the car and was told it was due a service.

when i got home after driving fine and steady,i took off the covers underneath the bonnet (just to be nosey really) and found that a plug was disconected from a little black round sensor thinghy with 2 vacume pipes going into it,1 of these pipes went to the egr valve.I restarted the car and within seconds the engine management light came on,the car would not rev past 3k and i got a message saying pollution fault.I disconnected that same plug and reset the fault code of p2143 and the engine management light and service light went out.Can anyone point me in the right direction please as the seller has basically said tough

The part that the wires go into will be a solinoid (round black tube with 2 rubber pipes) remove this and shake it if it rattles its fine if not its goosed also check all the vacum hoses going to and from it for leaks, splits or cracks. For future reference the service indicator is the little spanner that appears just above the odemeter. Was it a private sale and how long you had the car

hi it was a private sale. it is not the spanner but the other light on the opposite side looks like a gearbox with a lightning bolt if you know what i mean?

The service light was on because of the fault.   It comes on for the tiniest of faults.    Your seller told you a porky.   He's disconnected the pipework to keep the engine management light off.   If you can wait till after the weekend, Steve Coastline will be back and he'll probably be able to guide you.

I just tried an internet search on fault code P2143 and it came back with a few things to try for egr valve control circuit open.

Some suggest a clean of the egr valve but one on a Kelsey forum on a 2004 2.0hdi C5, after replacing parts and the fault remaining, it was eventually found the problem was a fuse that had failed in the fusebox beside the battery - so try looking for this first but it did not say which fuse.

A lexia check on my 2009 C5 2.0 hdi shows the EGR has an open circuit, however , no warning light and no running issues. all the fuses are good and I had the EGR replaced. The main dealer has checked the programming and is unable to find a fault. His advice is to live with it and I am happy to take that advice. Just goes to show not all faults are faults and not all codes need investigating. I would stick with checking the solenoid as a first port of call then as advised check for split hoses. If you do go down the route of cleaning the EGR take it off the car to do it, the spray cleaners can cause more issues than they fix.

Thanx for all the replies lads,I have replaced the egr solenoid which has fixed that problem and fault code, however the faultcode for the air intake temp to high keeps appearing??i have changed the maff and since doing the code and engine management light only appears after i switch the engine off.All the time it is running i have no lights?weird.Im going to check all the fuses as mentioned and clean the terminals on the ecu as i heard these can corrode over time? Will post the results asap.thankyou
