markspark Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 (edited) Hi guys im looking for some help in finding a fix for my electric windows and mirrors please the car is a c8 55 plate dieselTo start with the battery went flat and i needed to move the car so i jump started the car moved it and parked it back up the day after i bought a new battery and fitted it, now none of the window will work from the drivers door switch, the passenger side front will go up and down with the switch on the passenger door the rears wont work at all, the passenger folding mirror works fine but the drivers dont work. So i thought it could be the drivers switch so i bought a known good switch and fitted that and still now working windows, i them took it to local garage to read the codes to see if there where any faults and none are showing up im nowat a loss can anyone help/advise me how to fix this problem Just to add i have checked every fuse that i can find and they are all fine Edited June 21, 2013 by markspark Quote
Johndouglas Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 Welcome to the forum. Probably the C8 is the same as the C5 where the BSI and battery is concerned. When you changed the battery, did you use the correct procedure? If not, your present troubles may be due to that. I would suggest you disconnect the battery and give it a try. Use this method:-Switch off the engine with the drivers window open (if possible) and remove the keysopen the bonnet and wait a few minutes for the BSI to shut downdisconnect the battery negative terminalLeave it to stand a few minutes, thenreconnect the battery and wait a few minutesinsert the key in the ignition and wait a minuteturn the key to the first position and wait a minuteturn the key so the dash lights come onWait another minute before starting the enginetake the windows down and up, then reset your clock. Also if you do a search on the forum, you'll find a method written up for jump starting. Give this method a try, then come back and tell us if the problem is still there. Quote
markspark Posted June 22, 2013 Author Posted June 22, 2013 Hi thanks for the reply i will give it a try on monday as i have left the car at work over the weekendwhen i changed the battery i just changed it to be honest i wasn't aware there was a write and wrong way to do itthe drivers window cannot be lowered as it doesn't work i will just have to skip that step out i will report back on monday after trying the above once again thanks for the reply Quote
paul.h Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 Did everything still work ok after jump starting and before fitting the new battery - just to eliminate the possiblity of the problem being caused by jump starting. Quote
paul.h Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 Have you checked the fuse list in the handbook ? In the one for the 2008 model, it gives fuse 5 (30 amp) in the glove box as the electric mirrors and windows and fuse 6 (30 amp) as the supply for the front windows. If the battery reset does not work, you could be in for other checks such as the wiring between the driver's door and the body. Quote
Randombloke Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 Can I suggest that you buy one of these? http://i.ebayimg.com/t/LED-Car-Battery-Electric-Cigarette-Lighter-Voltmeter-Voltage-Meter-DC-12V-24V-/00/s/NDUxWDUwMA==/z/Cr8AAMXQjWtRKwIe/$T2eC16RHJHQE9nzEzND4BRKwId)h8!~~60_12.JPG It's on eBay as a LED Car Battery Electric Cigarette Lighter Voltmeter Voltage Meter DC 12V-24VThis will allow you to see charging and battery state problems before they get serious. Be wary as on some Citroen cars the socket remains live to if left in it will flatten the battery. Recommended. Quote
markspark Posted June 22, 2013 Author Posted June 22, 2013 im not sure if the problem started when the car was jump started as all i did was move the car i didn't try any of the electricsive checked all the fuses i can find but like i said the passenger window and folding mirror work fine although you can only work the window with the passenger door switch i'll try the battery reset on monday and report back good or bad Quote
