coastline taxis Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 if the particle filter hasnt regenerated in quite a while then the filter could be partily blocked and at tickover the exhaust gas pressure isnt enough for it to flow freely past the fap filter and remember there are 2 sensors in the exhaust measuring the differemtial pressure on the filter and if they detect anything it puta a antipollution fault on. If this was mine id be doing the following Replace/check filler cap and neckreset the bsi unittake car down motorway at a steady 50mph for 50 miles so it can regenerate itself. If that makes no difference then start looking at the other code Quote
THOMASROBLOT Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 I agree that if your filler cap hasn't his magnet, it will put out of order your particul filter because he can't put some EOLYSE in your tank, and the clean up of your FAP don't goes like it must, and it will be seal. But I wont give you the P0400 or P0402 This default come after a problem on the air flow. So your air flow meter can be HS Or your EGR can stay open longer than it must, if it is that you have to change the elecrovannes 1628LQ. I have changed many many 1628LQ...... But check your airflow meter first, it is very commun that is some water goes in the air filter box I hope I was enough clear in my explanation by Quote
coastline taxis Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 The reason im telling les to forget about the egr codes at present is for the egr valve to work it relies on 3 things1 the egr valve2 a actuator solonoid3 info from the differential pressure sensor So if the particle filter is partily clogged the pressure sensor will be given out wrong readings. Re the mass air flow the quickest and easiest way to check it is a follows.Unplug the mass airflow and drive the car and if it runs worse that it nornally does then air mass is ok Quote
les-cumbria Posted August 21, 2013 Author Posted August 21, 2013 starting to hate the electronics on the C5 after having 10 years trouble free motoring on my picasso!! but I bought it so am determined to sort it!! As i didn't pay a lot for my C5 and will be using it to carry my fishing gear around (should have bought a van!) I would like to start with the simple things first1) have cleaned the kneck of the fuel filler and cleaned the filler cap. Will have a run out today and see how this goes Next will look at the Mass Air flow as its the next least expensive if i have to replace it ( can someone again explain when it is on the car) Thanks I know where the egr is now so will look at that too at the weekend. Anything else while im working though things? There is no one near me who can re map the ECU or that would probably be the answer in the end as the car is still running 100% no limp mode no rough running - bloody computers!! Quote
Johndouglas Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 There is no one near me who can re map the ECU If you're considering a remap, Carlisle can't be to far from you. I know nothing about this guy, other than he's Polish.....http://www.chip-it-performance.co.uk/?page=about_usIt was a Polish guy who removed my particle filter and did my remap. It's made the engine more lively and improved the torque for when I tow my caravan. Quote
les-cumbria Posted August 21, 2013 Author Posted August 21, 2013 Here is an interesting find!! - did an MOT history check, not sure why but just did. No Failure but 2009 Advisory EML light on 2010 Advisory EML light on 2011 (no advisory) 2012 EML light on 2012 EML light on 2013 No advisory the car has done 40,000 miles since the 1st Advisory now at 130,000 - so am thinking when the car was taken to the garage it was cleared then came back on, the previous owner has had loads done but never cured. Have i got a cat in hells chance of finding the problem - doubt it! Should i be worried? Will i end up with a remap just to clear the light? Plus now the warning lights come into MOT will it fail next time? Quote
Johndouglas Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 Plus now the warning lights come into MOT will it fail next time? Time to take the bulb out!!! ;) Quote

Hi John have just rung the man up and he has looked on his diagnostics software and it doesn't cover Citroens - shame he is quite near Quote
les-cumbria Posted August 21, 2013 Author Posted August 21, 2013 Plus now the warning lights come into MOT will it fail next time? Time to take the bulb out!!! ;) That had crossed my mind, bet i would have to strip the front of the car to get at the bulb!!! - Quote
les-cumbria Posted August 21, 2013 Author Posted August 21, 2013 Have just had an email from a man that does remapping and he sent me this email, does the price sound right? Hi we can dpf and egr delete this also a light tune price would be £250You would have to cut dpf fillter out I hope he means he will cut the dpf filter out not me! Quote
Johndouglas Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 Do you want the bad news first or the good? OK the good news is that to remap for improved performance or better fuel consumption + to remove the programme for the additive system + the EGR, then £250 is a reasonable charge. But note that if you use the improved performance you won't get the better fuel consumption. It's one or the other. The bad news is that he's going to leave you to remove the filter. If you are able to work under the car it's not too difficult. You need the suspension on high with the body secured so that it won't drop on you. Maybe have the front wheels raised as well. It's easier if you lower the exhaust at the rear box. Then the cat and the particle filter box need removing and the four bolts joining them removed. When its apart, you drill four big holes through the filter medium. Bolt it back together and replace it all. Job done. Quote
les-cumbria Posted August 21, 2013 Author Posted August 21, 2013 Thanks John, further email he will charge me another £100 for removing the filter, but then he tells me although he is advertising he is in my area he actually isn't but uses an "agent" to program so in other words its a franchise and to get the filter removed i have to take the car 200 miles - am not fit enough to crawl under the car so have dismissed this idea. I will just go with my original idea and try one thing at a time, seems a lot just to turn the light off. Quote
coastline taxis Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 Maybe a good idea to phone local dealers up and see if they could tell you if theyve had your car in and any work theyve done to it so that your nor going over old ground. Did you get anywhere with the fuel cap Quote

Did you get anywhere with the fuel capGave the fuel cap a good clean and the kneck but didn't make any difference, contacted the previous owner and he now says that he had a mate do all the servicing and only the MOT's were done at garages, think he is getting sick of me asking questions now so better not trouble him any more, it was a very cheap car so can't push him. coastline taxis Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 Yes but did you check the actual cap itself as many will fit but only the one for a 2.2 has the magnets in the cap Quote
les-cumbria Posted August 22, 2013 Author Posted August 22, 2013 Yes checked that it has 2 magnets one at each side, checked them if they worked as magnets too Quote
coastline taxis Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 ok and did you check the wiring that goes to the filler neck. As theres a sensor that gets its reading from the magnets as theres a trick that can be done by disconecting these wires. So best check them and if they are unpluged then replug them Quote
les-cumbria Posted August 23, 2013 Author Posted August 23, 2013 Check wires to the fuel cap and all seems ok, saw some DPF fluid in Halfords while picking up some oil and thought maybe would put some in, won't harm. Driven 400 miles yesterday and today, stop start then belting down the motorway, no light on so far, may be a coincidence will see. Quote
les-cumbria Posted September 3, 2013 Author Posted September 3, 2013 OK finally sorted it, decided to have a look at the EGR valve and leaned on the engine, then noticed the rubber tube to the egr had a small crack in about 1/4 inch in, the crack was right the way through so cut a small chunk off and sorted. Quote
paul.h Posted September 6, 2013 Posted September 6, 2013 Brilliant, and no cost in the end to fix. Quote
