voguev8 Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 HiStarted off good yesterday, changed the drop link (Had to cut off in the end), but now no more knocking.Changed the air filter, and replaced the battery.Getting dark by then and I put the battery terminals on the wrong way!!!!!.Lots of sparks and plenty of heat....(Black & Green terminals confused me in the half light)Thought I had wrecked the car. But after putting the terminals on correctly, all seems ok. Checked everything and all still works and no warning lights so mayhave been lucky... Quote
Johndouglas Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 have been lucky... You certainly have Quote
THOMASROBLOT Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 you have been very lucky because generally the diode on alternator breakdown( do have use correctly the word break down?) but did you check the tension from it? be careful the light on the dashboard goes on after a very long trip if the alternator don't work. so check it.... it mus be above 13,7V at 2500rpm. by Quote
coastline taxis Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 Spray the black terminal red or put a + on it and we had one in just the other month that had done exactly the same thing so your not alone Quote
paul.h Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 Once jump starting the C5 from a C3 I got the jump leads the wrong way at one end and got away with it since the leads melted. Now I have painted white + and - on the batteries. Later C5s have red plus connectors but our C3 has black. Quote
