My C5 is only just 4yrs old and done 24500 miles. Whilst having an MOT today, the mechanic informed me that both n/s and o/s front fluid suspension shocks will need replacing very soon, they just about passed todays inspection but was advised to get them changed sooner rather than later. I was quite surprised as the car in my opinion is still relatively 'fresh' and as stated above only 4yrs old with only 24500 miles clocked. I would appreciate any comments from other C5 owners or a Citroen specialist. Thank you.

. What kind of life has the car had though if its been all speed bumps and pot holled roads then 4 years seems good . If its been main roads and motorways id expect a lot more out of them. Oh the joys of normal suspension this is where i think citroen has dropped a bollock by not makiing all mk3 c5s with hydropneumatic suspension

It's an Exclusive, so it should be H3+ rather than coil springs.

With hydropneumatic suspension, the struts are often slightly moist, which some non Citroen mechanics interprete as a leak and a failure. Might be worthy finding a local Citroen indy who can do the MOT for you and can tell the difference between slightly moist and leaking.

@ Coastline - unfortunately despite awesome reliability now people still think Citroen suspension is its weak point, and will buy a 1.6 HDi C5 MkIII with coil springs over a 2.0 Exclusive.

The suspension is not the weak point, compared to DPF, DMF and somne other "features" on the engines.

You're the victim of another clueless MOT examiner - at least as far as Citroen hydraulics go.   My C5 is very nearly nine years old and each year, before MOT is due, I raise the suspension and wipe the mist off the front struts.   About four years ago I forgot to do it and sure enough, I got an advisory for them.

think im losing the plot a little bit as this posting clearly says c5 exclusive and despite reading it ive giving the wrong answer. both john and random are correct just another tester that dosnt know citroens. simple wipe down  dose the trick as there just hydraulic rams.
