Hello,

I used to be a member of the owners club many years ago before the days of computers and internet!

I've owned 2 x Bx, 2 x Cx, 3 x Ds, 1 x Xm and 1 x Berlingo. Hopefully soon to become the owner of a MkI C5.

I may still have some old copies of the Citroenian locked away somewhere!

I've enjoyed all the cars but the latest one, an 08 Berlingo Vtr Hdi has disgraced itself and blown the turbo. It is now the centre of a dispute and is sulking in a main dealers workshop in Birmingham. If they don't get their act together it might be my shortest ownership of a Citroen. Hence my pending ownership of an 01 plate C5 2.0 Hdi next week.

Apart from a 1.6 Bx which was sorn for a while my last Citroen was a beautiful 2.5 Xm Vsx with low miles. Unfortunately I listened to the family who were moaning at me to get a "modern" car. It's been all downhill from there.

I shall now spend some time getting up to speed on C5 info. :P

Dave.

Hello & welcome to the forum.   Sorry to hear of your woes with the 1.6 but will look forward to hearing about your C5 adventures.

Yes - I too am a member of "that other forum".   Joined when it was still Andyspares  and have been a Citroen fan since 1990.

If you do go for a C5, it is best to avoid the 1.6 hdi engine (not available on the 2001 to 2004 mark 1 model) since it is known for turbo failure, as you have unfortunately found. On lowish mileage it is probably ok but oil/filter changes are frequently required, so on an older car with higher miles it would probably not be a good buy. The mark 1 C5 2.0 hdi came in 90 hp and 110 hp so need to check which before buying. In the mark 2 C5 it was 138 hp. The engine codes for these different powers are in the car vin (at the bottom of the windscreen) as 90 hp RHY, 110 hp RHZ, 138 hp RHR.

Another 1.6 and another turbo im saying nowt other that we should have a section were owners can put there name so we could add them all up.

Anyway dont acept another turbo as it will fail if your taking the car back then demand a new engine as its the only way to resolve it. ford wont replace a turbo on a 1.6 anymore they replace the engine

Is there anything that can be done to prevent turbo failure, other than regular oil/filter changes or should it be recommended to replace it as a service item before it fails to minimise costs ?
