nod Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Hi, I have a 2003 c5 petrol with climate control, the fan on the heater stopped working and I took it to the Citroen dealer who said without looking at the car that it probably needs a whole new heater at around £380 plus, so after spending a time checking out this forum it sounds as though its the heater resistor. well just changed that and still no fan? so what do I check next? the fuses in the car appear to be ok, do the fuses under the bonnet have anything to do with the heater fan, I just hope the Citroen dealer is wrong. Johndouglas Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 If it is necessary to install a new heater there's no need to pay that sort of price. The heater in my daughter's Xsara failed and I replaced the resistor pack. That got it working again but within a month it failed again. Being short on time I replaced the complete unit. The new heater cost less than £100. Quote
coastline taxis Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 you need to be a bit more specifc to get a answer does it work on any settings or is it not blowing hot/cold and what spec level and age Quote
nod Posted February 22, 2014 Author Posted February 22, 2014 Its a 2003 C5 petrol automatic. Warm air is coming into the car as you drive along but the fan is not working at all on any setting, I looked on this web site and it appears its the resistor I went to a mechanic not Citroen who put a new resistor on and it made no difference so what else can it be? He put my resistor back on and did not charge me , nice man. he did not have time to go further but he said could be a fuse or the fan itself? Quote
paul.h Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 Check in your car handbook for the fuse lists but in the Haynes manual it has in the engine fuse box, fuse F18 40 amp as heater blower. So check this first (I am surprised your mechanic did not do this). If the fuse is ok, check the fan electrical connector for a 12 volt supply and earth (the Haynes wiring diagram shows it has 2 wires, 12 volts positive and the earth) when it is switched on and then if this is ok the fan most likely needs replacing. nod Posted March 1, 2014 Author Posted March 1, 2014 Hi, well my wife took it to our mechanic and it turned out to be the heater fan, he replaced it for 3100 dkr here in Denmark and all seems to be working normally again. thanks for all the help. Quote
paul.h Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 A look at the exchange rate gives about £340 so in the end it did cost about what you were originally told. Thankyou for getting back to us. Quote
