Hi, my 2008 C5 Exclusive has developed a leak!

When it rains, the passenger footwell gets very wet. I had my mechanic check out the scuttle drains and they were all clear. I have had the windscreen replaced previously and have it booked to be re-fitted again (incase that is the problem). I have read in a number of posts and forums that the windscreen scuttle is a known issue, and Citroen have modified it to resolve this problem - does anyone have more information on this? Could it be anything else?? Has anyone else had this problem and resolved it? I can see a lot to do with the driver side leaking but not so much the passenger side...

Here's a picture of the wet mess...

The mark 1 C5 (to 2004) had problems with raining in to the driver's footwell due to a bad design of the cabin air inlet. This was fixed for the mark 2 C5 (2004 to 2008) but this is the first time on here a rain leak on the mark 3 C5 has been reported.

Thanks for the replies gents. It has no smell or taste so it is definitely water as apposed to coolant or anything more sinister. It does encourage me that if this is the first report of this it is probably the windscreen. Hopefully when it gets re-fitted this Wednesday the problem will be solved...

Hi there.

I have exactly same problem on mine C5 (2009) Tourer. I found out where water is coming in, but I cant find from where...  Open the plastic cover on front column ( between doors and dashboard). You will see a white plastic "pin" with black rubber gasket which holds the plastic interior decoration. Remove it (dont brake it!) and watter wil run out just like water-tab opened! (prepare a bottle first ;)) The column is filled with water and also your lower part of carpet which is difficult to dry. I sucked all the water from the column with a small rubber tube, but it's getting in on every rain. If you find the reason/place where rain can enter the collumn please let me know! Service personell of Citroen is uselles here in Slovenia...

Regards, Gregor

No unfortunately it doesn't!   It hasn't worked for some time.   Best you can do is upload to Photobucket or Flickr then post the link.

It may be worthwhile checking the drain holes at the bottom of the door pillar and sills are not blocked and stopping any water from draining out. Also may be the drains at the rear of the engine bay where the bulkhead joins the wings.

Hi - sorry for the delayed response. I did manage to get this leak sorted but I am not 100% on the solution. It could have been one of these 3 things:

  1. I took a look at the trim around the outside of the windscreen and the trim covering the roof pillars were put on before the windscreen scuttle, so this could have allowed the water to get in. So when installing the new windscreen, I ensured the installer put these on the right way around this time.
  2. Deep in the engine bay under the windscreen there is a big weld. The location of the weld pretty much lined up to where the water was coming in, so we applied a little sealant to this.
  3. I had a new windscreen fitted.

The above 3 things were all done while replacing the windscreen, so I am not sure what element solved it but one of them certainly did. My guess is it was the windscreen,

To echo what Paul H said, get your drainage holes checked out. If they fill with leaves and stuff the water will not flow through and it will eventially find it's way in somewhere!

Hope this helps.
