winnie Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 I have had this car one day and never had a C5 before so I need to pick your brains.I was giving it a look over this morning and I pressed a button and a lady's voice said I was in automatic mode I pressed again and she was saying some numbers, what is that all about? Also do you think it has cruise control, if so how do I control it.As I have only driven it 40 miles home I am well pleased with it.Oh one more thing, can any one put a picture of the dash that will explain what all the buttons do.Sorry to be a pain.Pat Quote
seefive Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 Automatic mode is the trafficmaster, The numbers are about renewing the subscription. You can turn it off by pushing the button above the drivers side glovebox, or renew if you want it Cruies control, if fiited, wll be on a stalk left of the steering wheel, which looks much like the audio stalk Would advise tracking down a handbook, maybe on ebay? winnie Posted May 2, 2014 Author Posted May 2, 2014 I checked under the bonnet, oil ok, washer water I topped up, then I spy-ed a black filler cap to the left side with half way up with a picture of what looks like a book.I could not believe how neat it was, everything has plastic covers over them.Filled it right up with diesel total £74, must be a big tank compared with my old car.Could not find the lever/catch to open the tank filler but just palled it with my finger and it popped open. Thanks to you al,l Pat Quote
paul.h Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 Welcome to the forum. The fuel tank is 68 litres on the diesel, so about £90 to fill at supermarket prices but round town should give about 38 mpg and on a run over 50 mpg for the manual and about 30 round town and about 45 mpg on a run for the auto. To open the filler flap, just push on it and it will spring open. Push again to close. On the end of the wiper stalk is a button - press it to change the trip computer to give current mpg, average mpg since it was last reset and distance covered, distance at current mpg to tank empty. Press and hold to reset the readings to zero. To help with info on the dash buttons - which model is the car, is it 90 or 110 bhp, is it manual or auto gearbox, does it have dual zone air con ? At the right of the radio is a door lock button - if you hold this down with the engine running it will initiate auto locking of the doors when above 6 mph. Repeat to stop the auto locking. Buttons below the radio are for the air conditioning and heated rear window/mirrors. At the left of the radio is a button to turn off the alarm internal sensors, if your car has an alarm. In the driver's door are switches to open the windows and one to adjust the door mirrors - select the left or right mirror with the sliding switch and use the arrow switch to adjust the mirror. Between the seats is a switch to raise and lower the suspension - if you want to jack up the car to remove a wheel, first raise the car to max height with this button to prevent any suspension problems. If you intend to go under the car always use axle stands since if a suspension height adjuster is knocked the suspension could quickly drop to a low level of a few inches above the ground. When locking the doors with the remote, if you press the lock button twice it will deadlock the doors so they can not be opened from the inside, although I am not sure if this was on the early C5s. At the right side of the boot may be a switch to raise/lower the back to help loading the car (estate models only) and the car will go to normal height once a door is closed. Under the bonnet at the driver's side, under a plastic cover (to remove, each fastener button should be pulled up and then the fastener will pull out plus possibly one screw needing a torx bit) is the coolant expansion tank and the suspension fluid tank which also does the steering pump - do not put anything but LDS fluid in this. To check the suspension fluid tank level the car must be lowered to its min height (button in car between seats) and the tank cap undone (there will be a release of pressure). The fluid level should just be in the bottom of the filler neck. Quote
winnie Posted May 3, 2014 Author Posted May 3, 2014 That was most helpful, I have printed it out thanks. You will never guess, I was sorting out bits from my old car to go into the C5 and I opened the glove box and found the Manuel to the car, just need to sit down and read it.The car is 110 bhp 2ltr automatic estate 2001, gave it a trip down to the sea side to day and it go's like the wind, it brought back memory's of when I had a BX citroen.Oh I am so grateful for all the help from you, you are so kind.Pat Quote
Johndouglas Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 Nice to hear you're enjoying the car. What's the mileage of it? Has it any service history? Quote
winnie Posted May 4, 2014 Author Posted May 4, 2014 mileage is 147,000 wow, new cambelt loads of old mot's all good plus it was serviced every year my a main dealer.Only one problem, it wont fit in my garage but I can live with that. Quote
Johndouglas Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 Yes - C5's are big cars to fit in normal sized garages. Mine has spent its entire life in the open air. If your car has a good service history, 147K miles is nothing. The Xsara in my family fleet has the same engine as yours and is on 125000. Some C5s on the forum have reached 300K. Does your service record mention any auto gearbox oil changes? Citroen claim that they are sealed for life but many auto owners prefer to have regular oil changes carried out. Quote
coastline taxis Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 Yep change the autobox oil. And for what they charge let the dealers do it Quote
