elpibedel8 Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Hello, Do the rear brake callipers not last long on the C4?. I only ask because handrake was not working and mechanic found out that the caliipers had seized. Car has done 85000 miles and is 8 years old. Cost of callipers was £98 each. I only ask because I never came across the brake callipers needing replacement ( I have owned several Citroens,Vauxhalls,Fiat in the past). Many Thanks Quote
Johndouglas Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Unless your car carries a load, the rear brakes do very little work. Consequently if the pistons don't often move, they seize up through lack of movement. It is possible to have your old callipers overhauled. Quote
elpibedel8 Posted June 1, 2014 Author Posted June 1, 2014 Thank you Johndouglas for the information. Work was carried out and handbrake is fine. Quote
john h Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 How does the electric handbrake work ? sounds like an electric motor winding up the cable, or is it applying hydraulic pressure, and what is happening if you need to use the winding handle from the tool kit if there is a handbrake problem Quote
paul.h Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 You can have a look under your car but I think it is an electrical device that pulls the cable for you so not hydraulic. Quote
john h Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 Thanks for that info, wonder how many have wished for a mod to hook a normal lever to the cable and kick the electrics into touch Quote
mikky.kelly Posted April 16, 2017 Posted April 16, 2017 Hmm, 'possibly' the same problem! Just need to know how to adjust handbrake cable--in the car or underneath it, or both? What size spanner and where does it go!?! Any help appreciated! Quote
paul.h Posted April 17, 2017 Posted April 17, 2017 What year, model, engine is your car, is the handbrake manual or electric, are the rear brakes discs or drums ? There is a Haynes manual for the C4 covering up to 2010 model. Quote
