jimbob950 Posted June 21, 2014 Posted June 21, 2014 I am a new member. My brother in law has purchased the above model which does not have a spare wheel. The tyre fitted to the car is 195/55 R16.We believe that the Spacesaver spare is 125 x 80 on a 15 inch wheel. Can any one confirm this as we want to get a spare wheel. He had a puncture which split the side wall and was unable to repair it with the silly repair kit supplied and would like to have the above as a spare.Help would be really appreciated. paul.h Posted June 21, 2014 Posted June 21, 2014 Welcome to the forum. The tyre size is correct from a quick look at the parts diagrams and load and speed rating is 95M. Wheel size is 3.5 J15 4-15. Your Citroen dealer will sell you one as well as a jack if you do not have one. Quote
john h Posted June 21, 2014 Posted June 21, 2014 Go to the salvage yard and get a full size [blade ?] alloy they do fit in the wheelwell with all the packing removed and ensure if it has to be used you will not be restricted to speed or miles as you would with a spacesaver Quote
paul.h Posted June 21, 2014 Posted June 21, 2014 'get a full size [blade ?] alloy they do fit in the wheelwell' this is good advice. A quick look on ebay has a few for sale, so about £50 upwards should be enough - such as http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Citroen-C3-Picasso-Ds3-16-Set-Of-4-Alloys-Tyres-Wheel-Bolts-Caps-Lock-Kit-LOOK-/231261141372?pt=UK_CarParts_Acc_Wheels_tyres_Rims_Car_Wheels_ET&hash=item35d83cf97c where the seller will sell them singly - but depends on the alloys you have for the wheel style. john h Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 (edited) Yes they do fit, bought mine off ebay, when it was delivered it was brand new, unused without tyre, I got a tyre fitted locally and after stripping everything , baring the bottom bracket, out of the wheelwell it fitted snugly face down, wrapped all the tools in cloth and put them in the wheel dish, floor panel sits directly onto the wheel which now supports it in place of the polystyrene packing. The wheel was such a snug fit found it did not require any method of anchoring in place Put my Spacesaver on ebay and it was snapped up immediately by a less fortunate Picasso owner who only had a tin of useless gunk for emergencies. john h Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 Isn't there some issue regarding wheel nuts when using anything other than an alloy ? something to do with the taper seating ? Quote
paul.h Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 The cars that we have had with a steel spare wheel, had bolts with a taper section which holds the steel wheel as well as the washer section that holds the alloy wheel. Quote
john h Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 (edited) So basically go for an alloy that matches what you have already, also an advantage if you are one that believes in rotating the wheels to even out wear. This is something I neglected to do on my Xsara Picasso, the spare sat unused in its cradle for 10 years, when I eventually took it out to inspect it all the walls had cracked, despite the tread being as brand new the tyre was scrap. Johndouglas Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 the spare sat unused in its cradle for 10 years If your car happens to be fitted with tyre pressure sensors, the system won't work if the spare wheel is used on the car. On my previous C5 I replaced the steel spare wheel with a matching alloy which had a pressure sensor in it, but because it wasn't recognised by the C5's computer, the complete system failed to work.
