rfhspares Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 Citroen c8 2004 2.2hdi . Recently bought and i find everytime I start the engine the hazard lights come on and I have to press the button to turn them off. Happens nearly everytime and doesn't matter if I arm or disarm the alarm or if I lock doors or not. Only happens once the engine is turned over and started. Any ideas? Quote
Johndouglas Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Has the battery been disconnected recently? Quote
rfhspares Posted January 9, 2015 Author Posted January 9, 2015 (edited) When i bought it the battery was nearly flat as the man that had it hadn't driven it for a while due to illness. Was in eco mode and although it turned over didn't have enough guts to start it. Had to use leads to start it . Since having daily use the battery seems fine now. Would that have caused it and how do I reset it? Thanks for your quick reply. Edited January 9, 2015 by rfhspares Quote
Johndouglas Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 On C5s (and probably other Citroens) if the battery is disconnected then reconnected without following the recommended procedure, then all sorts of electrical faults can appear. If you go to our "Common faults" page you'll find the correct method printed as Number 16. Find it here:- http://www.citroen-owners-club.co.uk/citroen/topic/20279-common-problems-rev-22122014/ Although your battery wasn't disconnected, it might well be that because it was flat, the BSI thought it was. Also a weak battery can start the electrics having erratic behaviour. Quote
rfhspares Posted January 9, 2015 Author Posted January 9, 2015 Thanks for that. I will try it and update the thread on my progress Quote
paul.h Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Maybe you could also check the wiring behind the hazard switch - possibly as the car starts the wiring moves and a bare bit could be touching something - or unplug the switch as a test. Quote
rfhspares Posted January 10, 2015 Author Posted January 10, 2015 I dont think it is a wiring or a switch fault as it would do it when I hit bumps when driving. Seems more like an electronic fault. I will try disconnecting it though as that's an easy thing to do on this car. Thanks for your input. Quote
paul.h Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 In the Haynes C5 manual it shows all the hazard switch does is connect 1 supply wire from the instrument cluster to its earth wire when the button is pushed. The other supply wire from the cluster is for the lamp in the switch. Quote
Gilbern Invader Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 A weak battery can cause this, the BSI turns the hazard lights on as a safety feature (I think). Before buying a new battery check the battery connections, most important is the negative lead connection to the body. Lift the battery cover and trace the - lead to the 10mm bolt holding it to the chassis under the carpet under the drivers feet. Use a 10mm spanner to undo and tighten it while holding the lead tight so you don't disconnect the battery, Has to be the most likely candidate as the BSI must be suffering a voltage drop so it can't be the connections to the starter or engine earth strap. Thats £25 please for the diagnosis - only joking xx Quote
paul.h Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 On our C5 when the battery is flat and trying to start the car, the headlights will flash and the wipers move but there will not be enough power to start the engine. So, a low battery voltage is a possibility, or if the battery is on its last legs and down on capacity - I have just replaced ours at 7 years old. A good indication if capacity is down is when using a battery charger it quickly gets up to voltage. Quote
coastline taxis Posted January 11, 2015 Posted January 11, 2015 try unpluging the brake light sitch and c if that stops it. ur vehicle is equiped with a system were if the car brakes hard it puts the hazzards on and when they malfunction your symptons is one of the 1st signs Quote
