seanodwyer Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 Hi, Just got a replacement gear know and gaiter for my 2010 C5. I understand that the gear knob just pulls off, but my question is how to i remove and replace the gaiter? Any help would be great. Thanks, Sean Quote
paul.h Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 The gaiter should just unclip around its base. A look at the new one may give a clue how it is fastened. I have not removed a gear knob before but have read you need to keep your face out of the way to avoid hitting yourself as it comes off. Quote
Johndouglas Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 I think the gaiter is held with spring steel clips. Prise inwards from each side. Maybe the knob will come away with a turning motion. Quote

seanodwyer Posted May 11, 2015 Author Posted May 11, 2015 I gave up, I could not manage to release the gear knob. Local garage very kindly fitted them for me and only charged me €5! Quote
henshaw Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 On mk1 C5 (don't know if this applies to later models) gaiter is held in the gear knob surround with 3 plastic clips and gentle pulling will remove it. The knob seems to have internal restraints. Sit well back in either front seat, firmly grasp the knob and pull strongly upwards. The gaiter is held onto the knob with a tiewrap. Pushing the knob back on, it will slide easily down the shaft and click into place. Quote
