Skxawng Posted July 12, 2015 Posted July 12, 2015 Hello, this is my first post on this forum so hello! I recently had the a/c pump drop off my 2.0 HDI RHZ engine. The mounting points on the sump and pump are sheared off so I'm trying to manage without it (ac didn't work anyhow)I bought a belt for my engine without a/c and its shorter than the old one by cannot figure out how it could go on. There is no way it seems to work.I've attached a picture of the same engine so you can see the layout. It's the bottom pulley, the ac pump that has broken off. I'm really stuck with this so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Quote
Skxawng Posted July 12, 2015 Author Posted July 12, 2015 Also does anyone know if there is any problem using a different layout with a custom belt length?I've drawn a pic of what I mean: Quote
Johndouglas Posted July 12, 2015 Posted July 12, 2015 There shouldn't be a problem providing everything is turning that's supposed to be turning - and the right way of course. Quote
paul.h Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 One thought on tensioning the belt. It looks as if moving the tensioner pulley acts on 2 lengths of the belt but in your revised layout it may not be adjustable enough to be able to provide enough tension but only by trying it will you know if it works. It could end up a bit of a gamble if it fails and the possible engine damage and costs compared to fixing the original damage. Quote
coastline taxis Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 thats the right way youve got there. the guide just above the ac unit is adjustable also just a allen key and itl turn upward for the shorter belt Quote
Skxawng Posted July 13, 2015 Author Posted July 13, 2015 (edited) Thanks for the replies. I've tried the other layout but its no good as it rubs on the timing belt cover, also as mentioned the tensioner doesn't work with it like that. I've been researching it and it seems I have two options: First is get the proper non ac layout by getting an alternator mounting bracket from a non ac engine and refitting the alt and ps to it. Second, buy a new oil sump and ac compressor and fit it so I can fit the belt as intended. Edited July 13, 2015 by Skxawng Quote
coastline taxis Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 put the top stretch of the belt back under the tensioner instead of a straight run Quote
Skxawng Posted July 14, 2015 Author Posted July 14, 2015 tried that but there isn't enough contact on the alternator pulley for it not to slip.Had to give in and buy a ac pump from scrappy. It's working now anyway, thanks for the input everybody :) Quote
