Hi All

Has any one ever changes the seals in the suspension struts as I have advisories from my last MOT saying:-

1) Both rear ssuspension units leaking and damp very close to excess.

2) Both rear brake back plates damp.

3) Both front shock units damp.

you dont realy change the seals anymore you just get new units so youl be wanting 4 new shockers. as for the brakes it could quite possibly be the hydraulic oil from the rear shockers and just need a clean up. you would however need to check the brakes 1st just tomake sure its not a brake leak

3) Both front shock units damp.

In the best of C5s very often the front suspension legs have a misting of oil on them. It's nothing to worry about but some MOT testers who are not too familiar with Citroens see it as a possible fail. Before taking my last C5 for test, I always raised the suspension and gave them a wipe first.

ah its a c5 sorry i looked at the name and thought it was a xsara.  John is correct about the front struts. the rear seals arnt worth trying to change as new rear struts can be bought for £100 at french and italian parts

The front struts are expensive at over £300 new so since it was an advisory I would do as mentioned and wipe them clean and monitor them.

Rear back plates being damp is an odd one since the car has disc brakes at the back so you need to investigate and find out what they are damp with. On drum brakes a leaking cylinder can leak brake fluid down the back plate but on disc brakes a  leaking caliper is likely to just drip off on to the wheel - and apparently you have both rear ones leaking. If brake fluid clean the inside of the wheels since the fluid will remove the laquer.
