I have a 54 plate xsara picasso desire.... I am getting the humming sound from the front wheel bearing.... Can someone please tell me how I change these on this car??? I have done one on another car years ago, just wondering how easy it is to do on this car!!

Thanks in advance.

It's quite a complex job and requires a long description, so you should get yourself a copy of the Haynes manual. The description for the replacement of a wheel bearing is in there and it runs into six columns. You will probably need a garage press to remove and replace the bearing.

Libraries often have Haynes manuals in them if you do not wish to buy one. The copy I have for the Picasso covers up to 2002 so there must be a more recent version available and if the removal of the swivel hub, brake pads and brake disc is included there are 13 columns of writing covering the bearing replacement.

Based on the models up to 2002, first the brake pads and brake disc need removing, then the swivel hub needs removing (drive shaft nut 320 Nm but it could be different on newer models, it may be possible to undo this before doing the brakes with the wheel on the car and lowered to the ground or something fastened to the hub to stop it turning as the nut is undone. If you have alloys with no central hole then the steel spare wheel may be used), then the hub flange knocking out of it and then the bearings knocked out if a press is not available. A large circlip needs removing and a new one should be used. A bearing puller might be needed if the inner race sticks to the hub (or you could cut it off with an angle grinder). The hub contact faces for the bearing should be cleaned up and a bit of grease or oil applied to ease fitting of the new bearing. It is a long time since I last replaced a wheel bearing but I used old bearing shells against the new one as a spacer and hit the old shell with a hammer to knock the new one in. Obviously if the outer shell was being located inside the hub an old outer shell was held against it.

they are a 1 piece bearing so without a 10 tonne press your going to be wasting your time. Bearings are around the £20 area from discount stores and any local garage should charge around  £50 for doing it as its is a straight forward job to do

A bearing kit is likely to just mean the bearing, a circlip and a new hub nut, R pin and possibly the castellated locking nut. It would not include the hub and swivel arm since then the cost would be excessive. The Citroen part no for a bearing is 335016 including the circlip and the part no for a bearing kit is E268403 but these should be checked using your VIN.

If you look on the eurocarparts site they show bearing kits which in their picture are a bearing, the circlip, the R pin and the hub nut for about £31. They also separately show the hub but it says this does not include the bearing. I have not included a link since I do not know your engine details and could select the wrong parts.

In your other topic you had a 2002 Picasso so I was not sure if it was the same car. If it is, did you fix the starting problem ?

no mate, i got rid of that car, the axle and engine mount went on it...

If you put your reg number into GSF or ECP website, chances are you'll be taken to the correct sizes for brake discs and pads.
