citroenC579 Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 I have a 2.2 hdi 16v sx, recently changed brake pads thinking this may help, but no. The handbrake lever on the calipers has stuck on both sides. I can pull the handbrake but they wont release, I have to manually knock the levers open with a hammer. So now I don't use handbrake just leave car in gear. I've spayed with lots release oil with no success. Is there anyway I can release levers somehow recondition them, or am I gonna have to replace calipers?😓 Ideas??? Quote
Johndouglas Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 Is it the levers on the callipers or the cables within the guide tubes that's causing the handbrake to stay on? Both have a tendency to stop the pads releasing. If it's the former, see http://www.citroen-owners-club.co.uk/citroen/topic/15045-seized-caliper-fix/ Quote
citroenC579 Posted September 1, 2015 Author Posted September 1, 2015 Cables move freely. Defo the lever's can only move with bit of force. Did separate cables from levers and tested independently. Quote
citroenC579 Posted September 1, 2015 Author Posted September 1, 2015 And yes I did see coastlines' suggestion after I wrote up. I am going to try what he says. Thankyou Quote
paul.h Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 If you replace the calipers the procedure to follow is important, look at the following: http://www.citroen-owners-club.co.uk/citroen/topic/6901-c5-bleeding-brakes-and-replacing-front-brake-caliper/http://www.citroen-owners-club.co.uk/citroen/topic/7552-replacing-front-brake-pads-c5-to-2008/ Quote
