Azzhill Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 Hi all, Well here goes..... While driving my car in went nuts and came up with every fault i can think of, every light came on the dash and the speedo and rev counted when to 0 then jump back up to to the actual speed. Even though car said it had all these faults everything was working fine. Then it started to jerk a little. The next day everything was ok, but its done it again again and this time when i stopped and took the key out and got out i turned back to realize the car was still running. After a minute it cut out. tried to start it and nothing, disconnected the battery and reconnected and it works. However that isn't working anymore and cant get it to start. Anyone got any ideas?? Many thanks Aaron Quote
MikeLane Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 When you say "it isn't working any more" and "cant get it to start" what do you actually mean? When you put the key in and turn it do any lights come up on the dash, does the engine turn over etc.? Quote
Azzhill Posted December 13, 2015 Author Posted December 13, 2015 I cant get the car to start at all, the lights, radio, windows, computer ect all works but when you turn the the key nothing happens, just a small click. Quote
coastline taxis Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 check the earth lead from the battery to the gearbox if all ok then get starter motor checked. but id put money on the earth fault or loose wire Quote
paul.h Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 If you have a meter also check the battery voltage, should be about 12.5 volts without the engine running. You will also find it will go to economy mode until you get the engine to run and then the radio and inside lights will not work but do not worry about this. Quote
MikeLane Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 "this time when i stopped and took the key out and got out i turned back to realize the car was still running. After a minute it cut out." Ignition switch problem? (Try squirting a little WD40 into the ignition keyhole.) Quote
Azzhill Posted December 14, 2015 Author Posted December 14, 2015 all of the above seems fine guys, i give in and sending it to a garage, lets see what happens.............empty wallet for Christmas is my guess...lol Quote
paul.h Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 When selecting a garage, it will be better to use a Citroen one or a Citroen specialist since they will have the correct diagnostic equipment. You should check the oil level is not high, just in case the engine is running on the engine oil when it has been switched off. Quote
MikeLane Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 ...and please let us know what the problem was/is. Quote
Azzhill Posted December 17, 2015 Author Posted December 17, 2015 well the garage are not sure what it is, they are getting someone out to have a look tomorrow that can check all the electrical side of things. They seem to think it needs a new ECU, what does everyone think? and how much will that cost me??? Quote
Azzhill Posted December 18, 2015 Author Posted December 18, 2015 Citroen partner they phoned today and its not showing any faults and starting fine, bloody sods law lol they have reset the ecu, so lets see how long before i end up back there lol Quote
paul.h Posted December 18, 2015 Posted December 18, 2015 Hopefully it will not happen again but if it does you could check the engine fuse box. At least you know the ecu is ok. Also note if it is raining when it happens. Quote
Azzhill Posted December 18, 2015 Author Posted December 18, 2015 now you say that it does seem to be when its raining, however it always raind in Glasgow lol yeah think i will be checking all fuses again to be on the safe side Quote
paul.h Posted December 18, 2015 Posted December 18, 2015 I was not thinking of the fuses but the fuse box in case it has had water in and gained bad connections or maybe a hairline crack in a conducting part. Quote
