wendypog Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 I recently bought a c5 1.6 diesel it has an engine management light on and has very little power. I bought a cheap code reader and this is what it had to say:p0402 exhaust gas recirculation flow excessive detected.p0104 mas or volume airflow a circuit intermittentp0133 temperature sensor 1 intake air circuit high.p1457 manufacturer control.p0098 intake air temperature sensor 2 circuit high.p1471 manufacturer control. p0122 throttle pedal position sensor switch a circuit low.p0238 turbo charger/supercharger boost sensor a circuit high.p1351 manufacturer control.p1445 manufacturer control. I think this means I have a faulty egr valve or turbo or both, what do people think? thanks in advance wendy Quote
Randombloke Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 (edited) A number of things, could be a dodgy connector as there are so many things faulty. Could be worth a BSI reset (look on the site, it's a pinned topic in one of the forums) Could be a duff battery.... I'd start with the MAF sensor (in the feed from/to the air cleaner) chase that back and see what it went through on its may to the engine management. That would show a diff connector if there was one. Alternatively, you could clear all the codes and see which ones come back.... What year is your C5? If it it's the latest shape it could be the fuse box inside the engine bay, had this on mine.... shed loads of codes... fuse box replaced at large cost, but sorted. This would have been best in the C5 forum.... Edited December 15, 2015 by Randombloke Quote
paul.h Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 Welcome to the forum. I guess the previous owner has put the car in the auction since they could not fix the problems or if they could it was going to be expensive. Sometimes cheap code readers do not give the same definitions for faults as a Citroen specific one, so something to consider. As well as the car year, what mileage has it done ? On here on the Petrol Diesel LPG section:P0133 O2 Sensor Circuit Slow Response (Bank 1 Sensor 1) P1351 IDM Input Circuit Malfunction/ Ignition Coil Control Circuit High Voltage - this is likely to be the glow plugs so can be ignored for now.P1445 Purge Flow Sensor Circuit High Input P1457 Unable To Pull Vacuum In Tank P1471 Electrodrive Fan 1 Operational Failure (Driver Side) Initially it looks as if the egr valve may need cleaning (or replacing) and the MAF sensor needs replacing but you could disconnect this and see if the codes change as well as put it in limp mode but it is already in this shown by the lack of power. There are also other faults indicated so as noted by Randombloke, check the battery voltage and its connections since a low voltage can give lots of electrical faults. You may also need to look at the ecu connections as well as the engine fusebox. There is also something vaguely similar here and it is suggested to check the exhaust pressure sensor connection but the topic is not complete so it may not be a solution - to find it work back from the exhaust dpf pressure pipes. http://www.justanswer.com/uk-car/3l8vi-2004-307-1-6-hdi-anti-pollution-fault-codes-p0098-intake.html#re.v/417/ Later I will move this topic to the C5 section if I remember. wendypog Posted December 16, 2015 Author Posted December 16, 2015 thanks for the speedy advice folks the car is from 2004 and has done about 90000 miles Quote
paul.h Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 I have edited the topic title to include the car year. Quote
coastline taxis Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 You need to do what random bloke suggest and clear the code and see what comes back. if they come back then id be going into live data and check what the egr valve and dpf are doing incase its had a botched attempt at defapping and egr blanked. If all fine then get back to us Quote
paul.h Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 A quick indication if the exhaust dpf has been removed or drilled through is to look at the inside of the exhaust tailpipe - it should be clean metal if the dpf is there and working - if it is sooty then the dpf has been removed or its insides knocked out or drilled through. wendypog Posted December 21, 2015 Author Posted December 21, 2015 (edited) ive cleared the codes and 4 of them came back they are p1351 IDM Input Circuit Malfunction/ Ignition Coil Control Circuit High Voltage p1445 Purge Flow Sensor Circuit High Input p0104 mas or volume airflow a circuit intermittent and p0113 temperature sensor 1 intake air circuit high (think i miss typed this code earlier) i have taken off the egr valve and the maf sensor cleaned them and refitted but this had no effect. the screen in the center of the dash board also says risk of particle filter blocking and esp asr system faul, i will look i the end of the tail pipe tomorrow and see if its clean or notthanks again for the advice folks Edited December 21, 2015 by wendypog Quote
paul.h Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 It looks as if the MAF is faulty from the P0113 and P0104 codes. You could delete the codes again and then unplug the MAF and see what codes it then gives. It may also run a bit better since the limp mode default setting will be used, if not already. Low cost copy MAF sensors may not work as well as original equipment ones , so if you try this and there are still MAF faults it is something to consider. It could be the dpf needs cleaning or replacing (if it is still there) and if not already done at its mileage would probably need doing. You could remove it and water jet it to remove the ash inside as a first step. The previously mentioned exhaust pressure sensor tells the car when the dpf is blocking by measuring the pressure difference across the dpf - as it blocks the pressure difference will increase. You should still check the topic linked in post 3 in case the pressure sensor is at fault. Quote
wendypog Posted January 5, 2016 Author Posted January 5, 2016 cheers inside the tail pipe is black so looks like dpf issue not sure what that is though il try to figure it out but am I barking up the wrong tree asking is the dpf at the engine end of the exaust? Quote
paul.h Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 On the 1.6 hdi the dpf is at the engine end of the exhaust, in the vertical section at the front of the engine. I would still have a go with the MAF unplugged and see if it goes a bit better and what the fault codes then come back as, since your last test suggests this is a problem. Quote
wendypog Posted January 6, 2016 Author Posted January 6, 2016 thanks I tried driving with the maf sensor disconnected and it was the same il have a look for the dpf soon Quote
smoky Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 dont know if this will help my daughters was going in into limp mode sparodically c3 04 turned out faulty injector was problem Quote
markgarry1 Posted May 18, 2016 Posted May 18, 2016 Hi everyone, I'm new to this site so I'm not sure if I'm in the correct forum page...I'm so sorry I hope someone can advice me regarding my 2004 xsara Picasso 1.6 hdi (diesel) The engine is vibrating on idle and when I rev the car it vibrates the body as the revs drop There is slight loss of power when driven. It starts first time and there is no smoke. Its done 101k I hope someone can advice me.....many thanks Best wishes, Mark Quote
paul.h Posted May 18, 2016 Posted May 18, 2016 Welcome to the forum. It could be the dual mass flywheel that needs replacing but I would check the engine mountings including the one low down at the back. Quote
MikeLane Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 Sounds like the DMF to me. Mine did this for a couple of hundred miles before failing (on a double yellow line!). Quote
