Have an 03 reg c5 vtr estate, with locking wheel nuts, however the adaptor seems to have sheered. Is there an easy way to replace this item as citroen have told me to chisel them all off at a ridiculous cost.

Surely the adaptor can be replaced.

One of our neighbours could not find the key for an Audi when it had a puncture. The breakdown service made something with a putty that allowed them to undo the bolt. If you can not get a replacement ask the RAC/AA if they could undo the locking bolts.

Finally got the replacement nut from citroen, and guess what they sent the wrong one bag marked up right but with wrong nut in. They want £180 to take the nuts off. And then another 120 for replacement nuts.

Got RAC round they don't want to touch it.

Great

Something you may or may not want to try, if Citroen are going to take a long time, is see if somebody here in your area has the same key number, there can not be that many combinations. Then by private e-mail arrange to change the nuts. There seem to be about 1500 forum members although not many appear to be active but could help.

To prevent the risk of causing more damage than its worth 5quid will buy you a can of emergency puncture foam, order up from citroen a new "key" and wait.

Chiseling off locking wheel nuts is a recipe for disaster. A slip of the chisel will wreck your wheels and cause potential other damage.

Once off and if you want to change surley aftermarket nuts are cheaper?

At last all sorted, having ordered the nut from citroen and them sending the wrong one, i got it changed for some standard nuts. Phoned every tyre fitters in the yellow pages and found a few that new what they were doing.

Took it to a back st tyre fitters, they knocked a cutting socket on and hey presto within 5 mins all the locks were off and they had fixed the puncture all for £25.

Should have seen his face when i told him how much citroen wanted. Bunged him a drink and off i went. Everybody happy.

Great job,

As much as these places always have a bad reputation, you find a good one and look after them they can get you out of some tight and sticky situations.

Had a puncture the other week and caught them as they were litterally locking the door, even though I said not to worry the lad was as helpful as could be and stayed on bunged him some cash for the work.

On the euro car parts site they have Sealey SX200 locking wheel nut removal socket set for 21 and 25 mm, only about £14 inc the VAT. They seem to have an internal thread.

Hi Guys

I Went to a national tyre fitting company who would nto touch my car after finding that the locking nut key had a stub missing. I went ot a local tyre company who took off the wheel no problem. As long as you have three of the 4 stubs on the wheel nut key then you can use a torque wrench after using a rubber mallet to make sure that the bolt comes off smoothly.

Great Job Glens Tyres.

Ps only cost me £104 for 3 tyres.

A few months ago I had a puncture on the M25 in my C5 (2.2 HDi Exclusive estate 2003) and could not shift the locking wheel nut. I ended up shearing the wheelbrace. RAC came out and to cut a long story short they eventually got it off after about 2hrs and the use of a hefty impact driver.

I have since done away with the locking nuts as they are a total liability. I figured that there were more desirable alloys out there than my C5 ones and so the chance of theft was low compared to the risk of not being able to remove the wheel.

I bought a set of four ordinary wheel nuts from my local Citroen dealer for a very reasonable price (circa £20 if I remember rightly). I also bought an extendable TUV-approved wheel brace from Screwfix which is brilliant. I now know that I will always be able to get my wheel nuts off. One interesting point - the car drove brilliantly even with a complete flat - down to the clever suspension I 'spose.

Truly the offspring of de Gaulle's black DS then! My first sh1te old BX did this, the problem is that the car goes well and it's only after the tyre is seriously damaged that you realise. A discreet small swerve gives the game away.

I've replied elsewhere - but you should have a matching key for your bolts. The key would have a code number on it. If you have the code, Citroen would be able to supply a replacement. Without the key, a tyre depot can remove the locking bolts for you, but before you go get a replacement set. Halford's do them.
