Adsc4 Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 Hi, just thought I'd share my experience of my 2005 55 reg c4 vtr+. I've had a few Citroens over the years and always loved the qwerky dare to be different styling. Some mates think it's old man ish but at least I don't drive a boring Ford/vw/etc. I bought my 1.6hdi 110 18mnts ago for a smidge over £2k with a full history and 2 owners with the first holding on to it for 7yrs. Full leather with heated seats plus the drivers is electric. Auto lights wipers plus rear view mirror auto dimming. Its easily by far the most comfortable car I've owned. At 115k miles I had it remaped with an itg performance air filter fitted by Angel near Banbury which transformed it immediately in to a quick but frugal car. It can pull hard but smoothly and without fuss through all gears. My previous car was a BMW 330d 184bhp 52reg and I'll honestly say the c4 is now not that much off the pace of the 330d and double the mpg! It's especially at home on A and B roads and have suprised many an arrogant bullying BM(!) and Audi driver! As with many 10yr old cars though, there are a few minor problems such as the drivers heated seat stopped working recently (why the drivers and not the passengers?!) and the electric switch panel on the drivers door can be a little temperamental albeit never failed. The climate control is also stuck on hot on the passengers side but with it about to turn 138k miles, I don't think that's too bad!! Touch wood, shes been a reliable old girl with only a vacuum pack failing about 4 months after I bought it. Other than that I've only serviced and replaced wear and tear items. So I suppose my conclusion is....what an amazing cheap car and if you haven't already, get it remapped and I promise you you will not regret it :) Quote
coastline taxis Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 hello and welcome to the forum. Its always good to hear good review/reports. I have never been a fan of the 1.6 engine and have openley slagged them off. But over the years and providing there kept out of a c5 ( the car wieghs to much) then im starting to come round to the fact that there not a bad engine when serviced correctly Quote
Adsc4 Posted April 27, 2016 Author Posted April 27, 2016 (edited) Quick update at 139k miles...running superbly and not missing a beat. Seems to get better and better! Averaged 58mpg according to the computer over 2k miles. Mixture of all conditions and roads. Edited April 27, 2016 by Adsc4 Quote

I have spoken with some mechanic and done some research and the permanent solution is to remove the dpf and remap it. You have done the same, but is it not illegal doing so in the UK and in case my insurance company discovers it will i be not in trouble? Quote
Johndouglas Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 but is it not illegal to remove particle filters in the UK and in case my insurance company discovers it will i be not in trouble? Yes!..... and Yes! Right on both questions. It is illegal to use a car on the public roads with a FAP removed and your insurance company would most certainly void your cover if they became aware of it. Apparently the Government are so concerned about vehicles being on the roads with filters removed that they are in the process of devising a roadside test to show whether or not parts have been removed. See this article.... http://www.theguardian.com/environment/2016/apr/17/diesel-particulate-filter-removal-air-pollution-department-for-transport Quote
paul.h Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 I will add this link to the C5 topic on dpf removal. Quote
arak81 Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 Thanks Johndouglas and paul.h for the advice...yes everybody should know about the consequences of DPF removal and also save our environment from being polluted. Quote
Adsc4 Posted May 14, 2016 Author Posted May 14, 2016 I also get the depollution error sometimes - give it a good rant then park up and leave until engine is cold. When you start it again, get presto all is good again. My advice is to ignore it. Quick update - crankshaft pulley went in spectacular fashion. New non-citroen pulley and alternator belt cost £70 Inc vat, mate fixed for a tenner. Just about to pass 140k. She keeps on going and going..... Quote
Adsc4 Posted May 14, 2016 Author Posted May 14, 2016 Thought I'd also share that I did 150 miles today all on A and B roads and not holding back (obviously within speed limts). Computer says 61.3mpg. From experience of the empty to full deisal fill up at the same garage and pump, the computer generally reads approx 2mpg too much. Quote
paul.h Posted May 15, 2016 Posted May 15, 2016 The depollution error could be linked to it being remapped but if you used a code reader it should tell you what it thinks is wrong. From the 1.6 hdi C4s we've had, 60 mpg seems about right for A/B roads, it is round town when the fuel consumption gets bad. It would also be noticeable in the 20 mile stretch of 50 mph roadworks on the M62 where fuel economy would increase a lot but then drop down once back up to 70 mph. Quote
arak81 Posted May 30, 2016 Posted May 30, 2016 Does anyone here drives C4 hatchback 1.6hdi 55reg. I just need to know if the symbol of Depollution system faulty error pops up in the dash what could it be related with? I know i need a code reader to pull up the code to see. but my point is, i am guessing this error pops up when DPF is getting blocked and needs regeneration. I remember i ran the diagnostic test once and it said regeneration needed, regeneration process not completed. The symbol goes away after a while by the way.So what I am trying to say is if it needs regeneration the symbol should pop up Regeneration symbol, isn't it?But in my car what appears on the dash is Depollution symbol only. Like the picture below (Sorry couldn't find an option of image attaching) I want to know whether everybody is getting the same symbol or different for this specific car. thank you. Quote
paul.h Posted May 30, 2016 Posted May 30, 2016 I had a look in a handbook for a 2006 C4 and in the warning lights I could not see one for regeneration or blocked dpf. However, a warning message might possibly be given and if so you may find this in the log of alerts, seen through the menu. Quote
arak81 Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 Hi paul.h,I bought an OBD tools today and found two codes in my car. 1st one is P0238 and 2nd one is P1351. I think because of these faults I am keep getting Depollution system faulty message. Could you please tell me what could be the potential problem with my C4 VTR+ hatchback 1.6HDi 55reg and what will happen if i ignore them? Depollution system faulty error message keeps coming up and also goes away itself. Quote
paul.h Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 On the Petrol Diesel LPG section there is a list of fault codes and gives - P0238 Turbocharger Boost Sensor A Circuit High - so maybe there is a problem with the turbo boost sensor. This might be the sensor if you look for it somewhere near the turbo, but I am not sure if it is the problem but you can check the pipes to it are not damaged/split http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PEUGEOT-CITROEN-1-6-2-0-HDI-Turbo-Vacuum-Boost-Solenoid-Valve-Genuine-1618C9-/331771116745 It might also be this one somewhere near the inlet manifold http://www.eurocarcare.net/various-engine-fittings/ecc1920cz-turbo-manifold-pressure-sensor.html - P1351 IDM Input Circuit Malfunction/ Ignition Coil Control Circuit High Voltage - which for a diesel probably means the glow plugs need replacing. Quote
arak81 Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 Thanks paul.h. could you please give me a link where i can find all the parts name under the bonnet. like as you said to check the turbo. Quote
paul.h Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 Probably best to look at the Citroen parts diagrams. Register on service.citroen http://service.citroen.com/do/changerParametres as an other professional non emergency services and as a member of the Citroen Owners Club. Use your VIN (VIS) top left once on the site to find your car. Then look under Mechanical, Engine, and then under the turbocharging section (turbo lubrication) and also under the air and fuel supply section. Many of the engine sensors are under Air/fuel supply and then Inj calculator sensor parts. Citroen's parts names are not that good and may just be sensor. Quote
arak81 Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 Just a quick question paul.h is it DIYable to change the Turbo Vacuum Boost Solenoid Valve for my car. I got a very basic tools. and also I have deleted the fault codes but P1351 seems to appear every time I ran the diagnostic. do i really need to pay any attention for it , could it be related with P0238? Thank you. Quote
paul.h Posted June 3, 2016 Posted June 3, 2016 You can ignore the P1351 for now, I would think it may only be a problem if it becomes difficult to start in colder weather. From the parts diagrams, the solenoid valve (possibly part 1618C9) looks to be held on by 2 nuts so should be easy to replace. The pressure sensor (possibly 1920CZ) looks to be held by a screw needing a torx bit to undo it, so again will be easy to replace. It may or may not be either of these parts that are faulty but to do a diagnostic check to see what values they are giving could cost more than the parts. Of the 2 parts, the pressure sensor may be the one to check first since it could be blocked with oil. Quote
arak81 Posted June 3, 2016 Posted June 3, 2016 thanks for your response..could you please give me the diagrams where this parts are located under the bonnet. Quote
paul.h Posted June 3, 2016 Posted June 3, 2016 For the parts diagrams you will have to go on the service.citroen site as mentioned above, but if you look at the links to the parts in post 14 these have pictures of them which should help you locate them. The pressure sensor I think will be at the side of the doser valve connected to the air inlet manifold and the solenoid valve will be connected by pipes to the actuator on the turbo, Quote
arak81 Posted June 3, 2016 Posted June 3, 2016 I checked service.citroen site and couldn't find anywhere Manifold Pressure Sensor's location. Quote
paul.h Posted June 4, 2016 Posted June 4, 2016 In this link there is a picture of the doser valve and the air pressure sensor is part no. 25. http://c4owners.org/plugins/faq/faq.php?0.cat.2.152 Quote
arak81 Posted June 5, 2016 Posted June 5, 2016 Still i couldn't figure out where those parts are. do i have to take the black part (on the left side of the engine as i open the bonnet, which is connected with two hoses on the front) out to get to those parts? Quote
paul.h Posted June 6, 2016 Posted June 6, 2016 I do not think you will need to remove anything to find those parts. The black part with the hoses may be the doser valve and the pressure sensor I think is fastened to it. To find the solenoid valve, look at the turbo and on it will be an actuator, follow the narrow pipe from this to the solenoid. This has a picture of a doser valve and and the pressure sensor looks to be on the top left section of it http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CITROEN-BERLINGO-PARTNER-2008-2015-1-6-HDI-AIR-DOSER-VALVE-9HT-/151826556253 This has pictures of the turbo and the actuator is at the bottom of the turbo http://c4owners.org/plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?174912 Quote
arak81 Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 No luck yet to find those parts. I took a picture of my engine but can't figure out how to upload here. Quote
