Woody1 Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 my c8 has been a nightmare from start to finish.first my turbo went, got that fixed, then the clutch.now im having this problem.the car is in limp mode saying there something wrong with the dpf filter, which as been took off and is clear.the other thing ive notice is that diesel is going to the sump.it ticks over fine but when driving it it as a miss on it and occasionally its lets out black smoke from exhaust which smells.anybody any ideas pleasethanks Edited 23/5/2016 Moderator, so easier to understand Quote
Simple Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 If your car is working well but not under load, you may have the wrong instructions going to the ECU due to a sensor not giving appropriate readings or due to a valve not acting upon instructions. Check the plastic fixture of the three hoses on top of the Diesel filter for cracks and leakage and check the accelerator sensor and the two valves next to it. Also, if you have access to another MAF, try it, yours may be bad. Quote
paul.h Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 Add to this to check or replace the dpf pressure sensor since these can fail and only cost about £30. It may be wrongly trying to regen the dpf. You should find it if you follow the pipes from the dpf to the sensor. Quote
Woody1 Posted May 21, 2016 Author Posted May 21, 2016 (edited) thank you i will check all sensors can this cause diesel going to oil will i not need a new ecu unit Edited May 21, 2016 by Woody1 Quote
paul.h Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 What year is the car and which engine does it have ? The ecu will be ok, possibly just a faulty sensor that may need replacing. Have you used a code reader to see what fault is putting it in limp mode, if so put the code on here since it will help. If not, note that the warning message anti pollution fault could be anything that affects the engine running that could impact on the exhaust emissions, it does not usually mean there is a problem with the dpf. Diesel going in to the oil could be the result of the car doing too many regenerations of the dpf or maybe an injector is leaking in to a cylinder or overfueling. Mazda engines are known to fail from this so do not let the oil level get too high and change it frequently until you get it sorted. The diesel pump also looks to be fastened at the end of the cylinder head taking its drive from there - so it may be possible a seal on the pump has failed and is letting diesel in that way, so something also to check. Woody1 Posted May 22, 2016 Author Posted May 22, 2016 thanks for that my car is a citroen c8 2 litre hdi 2006 its been on solas it just get coming up with dpf filter i think Quote
coastline taxis Posted May 22, 2016 Posted May 22, 2016 You say youve had the dpf removed. so the cause is 1 of 2 things the dpf has been removed and the ecu has not been told this. the dpf has been removed and the ecu has been reprogramed wrong. Take it back to whoever de fapped the car Quote
paul.h Posted May 23, 2016 Posted May 23, 2016 Steve, just shows how you can read things differently if not written clearly and then waste a lot of time - I thought maybe the dpf had been removed and then put back but I suspect you are right and the dpf is no longer there. I have edited the first post which may help. Quote
Woody1 Posted May 24, 2016 Author Posted May 24, 2016 The dpf has not been taken off completely it was unbolted and open to see inside to see if it was blocked it's wasn't unplugged Quote
Johndouglas Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 it was unbolted and open to see inside to see if it was blocked But was any of the filter material removed? Maybe by drilling. Quote
paul.h Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 Were you able to see all the way through the narrow channels in the filter to see that they were clear ? I think John meant did it look as if the filter core channels had been drilled through by the previous owner so they were not the normal narrow channels. Quote
