Not stressed at all honest Posted September 18, 2017 Posted September 18, 2017 Hi All, I've bought a C3 Picasso Exclusive 1.6 with EGS 6 gearbox and I'm either having issues with it, or it with me and I'm not sure which is correct. The first is best described as a reluctance to change down when flooring it at low speeds. If it's rolling at 9+ mph toward a junction or roundabout and I put my foot down to pull out, it sits there meditating while slowly rolling onwards. After a second or two, it seems to wake up to the fact that the pedals on the floor at which which point it hits first, dumps the clutch and floors it leading to much consternation amidst the oncoming drivers. I can use manual but it too lags on occasion. The second is that something appears to be happening that leads people waiting to pull out or turn right across the front of us to believe that I've invited them to do it. Twice in the last week I've had someone smile and wave then turn across me only to panic brake when I carry on at the same speed. A look at the dashcam showed no headlight glare reflecting from their car so I'm wondering has anyone else had this happen? If so what caused it,? At the moment, I'm back in my old car as I'm seriously worrying the C3 may be trying to kill me. Are these things that a software update would cure? How much is a software update or is it free if it's curing problems. Thanks in advance, Jools Quote
paul.h Posted September 18, 2017 Posted September 18, 2017 Welcome to the forum. If people are pulling out in front then maybe your headlights are flashing on/off for some reason but you have already checked for this with the dash cam. Other reason could be you are leaving a large gap behind the car you are following and due to the slow acceleration it is letting people think they are being let out. I have not had an egs gearbox so do not know how well they peform but our 2015 C4 1.6 hdi was recently suffering from poor acceleration. The dealer diagnostic found a fault in the fusebox located on top of the battery, the fault code of which listed symptoms of reduced performance. Once replaced under warranty the car was back to normal. I would consider paying your dealer to check your car if it is no longer under warranty. I am sure I once read on Citroen's site that at a dealer MOT they would do software updates free. As a minimum they should be able to tell you if there are any available without you having to pay. Although many people call them 'automatic' the gearbox is a 'piloted manual'. There is no torque converter and no eletrovalves. Changing the gearbox oil will be unlikely to change the way the box performs. Due to the way it is set up these gearboxes have difficulty dealing with speeds below @10mph. You need to adapt your driving style to suit the gearbox. Don't 'floor' the accellerator whilst it is in 2nd gear. If you need to be sure of a reasonably fast getaway, use the controls to select 1st gear. Quote
Not stressed at all honest Posted September 20, 2017 Author Posted September 20, 2017 Thanks everyone, food for thought as I was not sure whether it was me or the car. I'll probably drop down to a dealer and have them check it over just to be on the safe side but otherwise, It may just be getting used it. Thanks again, Jools. Quote
