You don't need to remove the battery. It is a slightly scary but actually quite easy job to undo the mountongs for the front bumper. take out the three bolts securing the headlight unit in place and move the whole headlight forward sufficiently to gain access to the bulbs. I did this last week to replace my side light bulbs. The bumper is secured by torx head screws on the underside of the bumper just in front of the front wheel, on the esdge where it meets the wheel arch again just in front of the wheel, and a screw that is in fact one of those 'half turn and it's out' pins which is further up the wheel arch, again in front of the wheel. There are some torx head bolts to remove on the front panel under the bonnet, just about in line with the bonnet catch. A judicious tug on the bumper will pull it forward enough to access the screws to loosen the headlight. Or you can go to your Citroen dealer, who will charge about £60 plus bulbs. Quote

Also if i can get the plug off does the retaining clip that holds the bulb in place fall away or is it hinged, thanks again. Quote
BarbsC1 Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 Also if i can get the plug off does the retaining clip that holds the bulb in place fall away or is it hinged, thanks again.the clip hinges, and if u disconnect the battery allow about 2 minutes after reconnecting before starting only because it will not start at first but don't panic, the only caution for disconnecting the battery is if u have the genuine sat nav allow a couple of minutes after turning off the ignition before disconnecting the negative terminal to allow the unit to shut down properly Quote
DaveHerns Posted April 6, 2008 Posted April 6, 2008 227 duke , are you referring to the Mk 1 or Mk 2 C5's ? I have a mk 2 and used a slave battery to save losing codes , but strangely , the clock still stopped ! Quote
paul.h Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 I had not used our mk 1 C5 for a month and the battery went low to just over 11 volts. This was not enough to turn the engine so it was jump lead started from another car. The clock had stopped and the radio also needed to be reprogrammed and the hatch door would not unlock until the engine was running and the voltage increased. Quote
crapday Posted April 14, 2008 Posted April 14, 2008 you'll need to have skinny hands to replace the bulb, even with the battery removed. Quote
Tigerryes Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 We did a bulb change the other day, just put jump leads onto the car's leads before removing the battery, worked a treat. Clock seemed to be ok. Quote
phatp1p3 Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 I have just done this on my 54 1.8 VTR and after deciding that I was not a 5 year old double jointed contortionist I removed the battery. I took about 5 minutes and the only thing that needed attention was the clock and radio had to be re-set. I have to say the removing of the front bumper to change the headlight bulb scared the cr&p out of me. The battery removal method worked fine for me and the next time the bulb goes I will use this method again. Quote
Johndouglas Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 I've had to replace sidelight bulbs on my Mk2 twice and both times I've had to drop the bumper. There was just no way I could reach the driver's side bulb. Also Halfords wouldn't touch it. Now the side lights have LEDs in them. Quote

So far only once for me since the car was new in 2002, seemed pretty crazy, but I spent a good hour trying before dropping the bumper, which really only takes 10 minutes... This was the driver side. http://www.aussiefrogs.com/forum/showthread.php?t=64067 CheersChris Quote
legin Posted September 25, 2010 Posted September 25, 2010 I had to replace my bulb a few weeks ago. I released the battery clamp and moved the battery back and up slightly,a second pair of hands would come in 'handy',and changed the bulb.Tight gap but doable. Quote

As a footnote to this (long) thread, Halfords will do the replacement now - I had one done a couple of weeks ago on my Mk2 (offside) at the Uxbridge branch They have a general condition "subject to inspection" which seems to have replaced the old blacklist. No real problems doing it, a bit fiddly getting the bulb back in (aligning the lugs and getting it in square) but this must be tricky with the lens unit removed or pulled forward anyway Quote
Johndouglas Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 but this must be tricky with the lens unit removed or pulled forward anyway That's right! Even with the unit removed I find it best to use long nosed pliers. Quote
