72dudes Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 Over the last few weeks, the car has made a bong exactly like the "putting in reverse" warning you get normally. This has started happening as soon as I turn the starter motor over. The car then starts and operates normally, no warning lights, no messages on display. The first time I select reverse (which is immediately as the car is nose first in the garage) the normal bong doesn't happen, but happens normally thereafter. Any ideas? Quote
paul.h Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 Are the reversing lights on as the car is started, if so could be the reversing light switch is sticking. Other bongs could be if locks are set to lock automatically, possibly seat belt not done up but on mine these are once the engine is running. Quote
techbod Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 its an automatic I presume? does it need tranny fluid/service, is it the tranny or a belt like the serpentine belt slipping and catching when its warmed up sometimes heard on power steering belts when they are worn and smooth so don't get a good grip, more investigating required like pinpoint the source of the noise Quote
72dudes Posted December 18, 2008 Author Posted December 18, 2008 its an automatic I presume? Techbod, no, it's a manual. Paul h.Thanks, I'll check to see if reverse lights are on when ignition is switched on. I leave the car in 3rd gear, handbrake off when parked in the garage, so I wouldn't have thought so. Bizarrely, it hasn't made the noise the last two start-ups! Quote
techbod Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 issue is called clutch plate sticking to the fly wheel over night because of the damp weather and best way to prevent it is to depress the clutch before you start it Quote

72dudes Posted February 5, 2009 Author Posted February 5, 2009 is the out side temp below 4 deg cel or less, it could be a ice alert No, it's usually above that, as the garage is integral to the house, and some central heating pipes pass through. Have checked for reversing lights being on with ignition - no, all correct. Don't think it's the stuck clutch plate - car is dry and I always depress clutch prior to starting. Has only bonged once since mid December!!! and I think the message "Automatic Wipers Active" showed briefly. Thanks for the suggestions so far. Quote
paul.h Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Auto wipers is when you have the wiper switch set to the equivalent of an intermittent wipe, first position before set to low speed wiping.Another bong may be if you have the doors set to lock as you set off. Quote

Sorry for the off topic reply but I'd been wondering if the doors can be set to lock automatically after driving off but can't find out how to do this. Is it possible to set this up myself? Quote

Is it possible to set this up myself? Not sure if it fitted on the later models, but on the early ones (pre 2004), the only driveaway locking is on the estate, and it only locks the tailgate. Quote

Mine is a 2005 facelift estate. Once I reach 5mph all the doors lock. Auto-locking can be cancelled on the central display Quote
paul.h Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 To set auto locking, with the engine on (may not be needed), press and hold the inside door locking button on the dash, after a few seconds a message comes up "deadlocking" and then the button can be released. Then the doors auto lock above about 5 mph. Once locked, the doors can be unlocked by using an interior handle or the dash button. To remove auto locking just repeat the above. Quote
