pragmatix Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 I would like to put some grease nipples in the rear axel i(ts a 51 plate 2.2 with 3+suspension)to try and preserve the life of the bearings does anyone know where abouts these should be drilled, dimensions as to the bearing locations would be good. TIA Pete Quote
techbod Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 personally I cant see it working because of how its made up you would have to change the " sealed bearings " to allow grease in there Quote
kfk Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Wow.......grease nipples.......i remember them..........i tidied up last week and put my grease gun away......my thoughts at the time were........i wonder if this will ever come out again.....or will it appear on antiques road show with some knowledgeable twit asking the audience if they know what it was used for! As for the question about fitting grease nipples though......i doubt you would be able to get the grease into the bearing where its needed. Quote
Johndouglas Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 This idea was first written about by the late Alan Smith on the Aussie frogs site about ten years ago. He carried out the mod on a number of BX's and wrote up the job in a file that you may still find on a BX site. If I remember rightly, Alan agreed that the grease wouldn't get to the bearings, but would only fill the spacer between the inner and outer bearings, which otherwise might hold water. Quote
pragmatix Posted January 22, 2009 Author Posted January 22, 2009 I realise that it wont get to the bearings but it should stop water ingress. So where can I find out about the C5 rear axel Cheers Quote
