tonyk Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 hi bigdaviei had a problem fitting mine also - had to remove the fuel filter to make access easier i fitted a tdi tuning chip which i purchased secondhand from ebay for about half its normal price. i found that the extra power is quite noticeable - not that i use it for this as the main reason i bought it was for economy. Also the chip makes the car a lot more driveable ie i can do less than 40mph in 4th gear which i was not able to do before. i have had the car for nearly 2 years and have kept records of fuel consumption and can say that the economy has increased to about 2 mpg on average.i can also tell you that the worst diesel for economy is esso - which seems to give about 4 mpg less than usual! i always feel really cheated if i had to fill up there! techbod Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 my mate has a chip fat fryer also :roll eyes: only its a VW :D now hes got rid off and gone to petrol ( he says its much better and cheaper ) others are bound to disagree  Quote

I always use the v power diesel, not because of extra economy, as in my case, it does not seem to make any difference. I use it because the engine is much smoother with it, had a annoying little misfire during warm up, soot and smoke etc. Have to say, with the v power, runs like a dream, and much cleaner at the rear pipe. Doing the head gasket (finally) this weekend, and am really looking forward to seeing how clean (or not) the innards are in comparison with Shells claims. Its almost done 118k now, I got it on 82k, and it has been on the v power for about 5k miles, will get a few snaps of the findings, just in case there is more than one anorak in these forums. Quote
techbod Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 worthless upgrade like lpg, are diesels any better? fact is no because they know you get better fpu/pg ( diesels are not cheaper to run than your eqv-fact  Quote
mlkey Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 worthless upgrade like lpg, are diesels any better? fact is no because they know you get better fpu/pg ( diesels are not cheaper to run than your eqv-fact  Sorry TB, have to disagree. Depends on your mileage. I cover around 35k a year, and I can tell you it is cheaper on that sort of mileage. I went from a Fiesta petrol to my C5 after the Fiesta was written off in an accident. The savings have been plain to see with each fill up. My cost per mile on petrol was about 11p at the time of checking, compared to about 9p on diesel. Also, this car has amazed me with tyes too, the fronts have managed 37k (motorway) miles, but are up for renewal now. Ohh, and LPG.. again depends. My brother had a new car converted at a cost of £1300, which he got back in his first 2 years of motoring, so from here on its all savings. If you did that on an older car, you would not get your money back. All depends on the miles, if you only do maybe 10k a year, I agree it is more expensive, but for me, it saves me good money. FACT :D Quote
techbod Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 im not knocking them its just personal preference im not a diesel man but they are getting better and quieter, LPG on the other hand can save cash if you do the miles and the car is under 3 yrs old because the gov help you out with the cost, my mate from auto-glass has a new hummer and declined LPG conversion because 3 of his vans which were converted buggered the engines up and thats was enough for him to change his mind  Quote
Guest Dervman Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 i fitted a tdi tuning chip which i purchased secondhand from ebay for about half its normal price. Which chip have you got fitted? There are a number for sale on ebay for the £100 mark, but are they that good. I read lots of different things about these - the inline chips only give the boost 'big bang' style, whereas the ECU remap is across the range? Economy for a big heavy car is good, over the 9 months I've had it I've managed an ave of 43mpg. Tho the onboard trip always suggests 38! I use mileage at the pump and manually work it out. Quote
robert217 Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 hi just bought a CRS TUNING BOX FOR MY 2010 C5 1.6 HDI told it should take five minutes plug and play, two days later still can not find the plug. Can anyone please tell me the location, Quote
coastline taxis Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 You playing with fire chipping a 1.6 hdi. By there design they kill turbos and by fitting your chip your going to take the turbo way over its range. Think carefully about what your doing google 1.6hdi turbo failure and read before you try Quote
qman3428 Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 The plug is on the common rail (fuel system). On the c3 it is at the back of the engine near the bulk head on the near side of the car. Could see it but changing the plug was a swine. As I understand it you are not increasing the boost just the amount of fuel being delivered so the tendancy may be to use higher revs more often which could be detrimental to the turbo but it all depends on how you drive the car. My engine is chipped and the power comes in low in the rev band so I tend not to go over 3000 rpm which means the turbo is not unduly stressed. Having said that mine is the 2.0 so not known for turbo issues Quote
