seefive Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 I have noticed lately that used C5 prices seem to be going up. I'm considering something a bit newer than my 02 car - but 2004 models are coming in at around £5k or more on ebay classified ads. I've taken a shot at a couple of auctions, but not made reserve. I would have thught you should be able to get a 5 year old example on auction at around £2k?? Maybe I'm being mean with my budget, or maybe the dire state of new sales is causing shortages in the used sector. When I see (for example) a brand new Kia Magentis up for £8k (list price £15k) with 3 year unlimited warranty that even covers the exhaust, I'm not keen to pay £5k for an older car. Any thoughts or insight? Quote
Randombloke Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 Any thoughts or insight? New C5 is a sales disaster. Sales compared to pre 2008 models is very low. Some people (caravan tow bods, hang glider pilots) want hydraulic Citroens and the new ones are about 50% coil spring models. Hard core Citroenisti with need for these cars are pushing prices up, and the newer models aren't arriving on the market for 35% of the new cost with 60k miles/3 years use. I think you need to set aside 3k for that, or up to 3.5. You also need to look at the time of year when most cars pass the three year mark and there is over supply, IMO, so try Sept/Oct or March/April? Nice 407 then, Sir? None of that nasty hydraulic stuff that gives you diagnostic costs and then can't be fixed ;-) Quote
DaveHerns Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 If it's a sales disaster , why aren't Citroen discounting them ? I'm hoping to get a new model C5 mid 2010 but I don't want to pay full price Quote
paul.h Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 seefive, maybe you could put a note on here to see if anyone has a 5 year old car for sale or ask what people have been paying for one. Now may be a good time if people are thinking of buying new for the 09 registration and wanting to do a part exchange. Quote
Guest Dervman Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 seefive, maybe you could put a note on here to see if anyone has a 5 year old car for sale or ask what people have been paying for one. Now may be a good time if people are thinking of buying new for the 09 registration and wanting to do a part exchange. I have a '54' (Dec 04 reg) C5 VTR HDI 110 in Met Grey (looks light blue to me). Has digital, dual zone climate control, alloys etc. Done just under 71k miles, I'm 2nd owner, ran it since June 08 faultlessly. I bought it, as my Volvo V70R (auto) was costing around £400/month in petrol, and I'd just become self employed. Things I love.... £120 tax, £200 fully comp insurance, 650 miles on £60 of diesel, 700+ if I'm careful and doing a lot of motorway driving. Things I hate... Manual gearbox, first I've had in 6 years. Left leg been getting more and more painful. Visited the quack last week to see what is going on, pushed on to hosital and 1 MRI later, I'm now on the list for a major hip op... chronic arthritis!!! (lesson in life - don't play rugby, enjoy watching it!). Fortunately as I'm young(ish) they can repair, rather than replace my hip! I want another auto, and now looking around for one. If someone is interested in mine, then £3k (no offers) and its yours. It's in for a major service (£250 worth) on Thursday, and still has Tax until May. MOT until Dec (last MOT saw new disks and pads on rears). If not, then I'll ebay it, as it seems to be the place to go... ;) If anyone is interested, PM me. I'll answer any questions, take pics etc. Car is HPI clear, has service history and paperwork right back to day one. It's the Mk1 2.0 hdi version. All tyres have more than 60% on them; only done 10k on them. Quote
ando7p Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 I must admit that I don't find E-Bay good for car prices. Last few searches for cars have resulted in expensive results. I personally tend to lean towards autotrader.co.uk. Its at least worth looking on for a price comparison! Quote
