sofaford Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 Hi, Got my Citroen 2.0HDI(110) in 2001. It is now covered more or less happy 99000 miles. In the recent months I got a problem with my oil cap getting out of place. First few times - I thought might be me or dealer not putting it right. But now it is happening every week. When cap gets out there is oil all over the place.Obviously I though it is vibrating out so got a new cap but that did not help. Any suggestion will be much appreciated. Quote
coastline taxis Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 check where the cap goes into to see if the plastic lip has snapped if so youl need a rocker cover Quote
ando7p Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 Had this problem some years ago on my old over head cam pinto engine. The rings were leaking allowing pressure to build which kept forcing the cap to pop. Needless to say it wasn't a cheap fix. Not sure with a more modern engine if this could still occur as I guess that there may be pressure relief in the rocker area. Compression test would disprove this. Quote
kfk Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 Memories not too good here cos i havent looked under the bonnet of one for a while.........but has it got the black plastic engine cover over the engine? .......if so is it secure or have one or several of the fixings broken causing the cover to rattle about and unscrew the cap? Apologies if i've just led you up the garden path but its worth checking cos it will only cost £15 to fix and 10 minutes work! Quote

Av had this happen on 2 c5,s the engine cover mounts broke causing the oil cap to come loose and come off spraying oil everywhere. Quote
techbod Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 if the engine cant breath then there is a blocked/weak vent pipe and the result will be over pressure which means the oil isn't getting round the system, things to consider are oil/filter change has it been done regularly? otherwise its could be a sludge problem and the oil pick up could be blocked which would reduce oil pressure. Surely not If the engine breathers are blocked there will be a build up of combustion blow-by gases. It won't directly affect the oil getting round the system Quote
