bigray Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 Hi, My 51 plate C5 has a problem with the drivers window. When you press the button it goes down but if try to pull it up it just goes down again. I used to be able to press the small button on the remote for the central locking and it would go back up. I found a BSI reset guide on here and tried that twice but now the window won't go up even with the remote in the end I had to take the door panel off. Remove the motor etc and manually lift the window before replacing the motor and gearing so it wouldn't drop down but now i'm stuck. Has anyone got any suggestions? Thanks for all the help Quote
paul.h Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 Does the window still wind down as normal but not up ? I had a Saab where the driver's window would wind down but not up - the contacts within the switch had burnt giving a poor connection but once cleaned up everything was ok.If you still have the door panel off you could see if there is any voltage at the motor wiring connection when you try to operate the window. You can also put a 12 volt supply direct to the motor to wind it up/down - this would also avoid the anti-pinch which if the window is stiff to move may stop the window going up as normal. Then you will know if it is the motor or supply to it. A common wiring fault on a car would be where it goes in to the door it can break with door use. Do all the other windows work and from all the switches ? A fuse check should also be done. Quote

I had exactly the same issue, except with the passenger window, which allowed me to test it on the passenger door switch. On mine, it was dirty contacts in the switchpack on the drivers door. Remove it, strip it (clips together), and clean the contacts on the PCB and rubber pad with some electrical cleaner and cotton buds. Worked for me, and has been fine for about 12 months, since I done it. Only thing that bugs me is the fact it is not working on your keyfob, does suggest something else.. wiring / motor etc. Quote

bigray Posted May 18, 2009 Author Posted May 18, 2009 Yeah I wondered about motor but thought that if it will go down then the motor must be ok but will try the switches thanks for the help Hi all, Have tried that to no avail so stripped the door down again the mtoro only runs one way also noticed a steel wire hanging down inside the door so guessing it needs a new motor (and the little black bax thats attached to it) and a mechanism. Does anyone have any idea how to change this and is it likely to solve the problem? Thanks Quote
coastline taxis Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 The steel wire your on about is actually the window mechanism once its removed youl find that your motor will work both way. ok mnow down to nitty gritty. remove door panelWindow mechanisn is £60ish from dealers if memory serves.window mech and motor is riveted in place so youl need a drill to get them. its pretty straight forward as the window bolts onto the top of the mech so dosnt need to be removed (just held up)romove the mechanism and replace with new one then rivet back in place dont be tempted to use speed fastners or screws as with the shutting of the door they come loose in a few weeks and you have to do the job again and that is speaking from experience/box the door up and job done Quote

Ok so I have now checked the switch and all seems ok although it looks like it's been cleaned before. I have put a new mechanism in and put a new motor (complete with the black box that attaches to it) in. And still it will go down and not up the motor only turns one way. The passenger side window will work up and down and also responds to the button on the key fob to vent the windows but the driver side does not. I have aslso tried a BSi reset. Any other suggestions folks? Thanks Quote
coastline taxis Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 have you put the wire mechanism in correctly. disconect window wiring from main harness and run a live and earth to it to see that it works ok. If it works both ways then its sounds like a broken wire in the harness check the wire between the door and the main car frame Quote

Windows and sun roof shut on rain detection. You can get this turned off by a garage with the right diagnostic. It's still turned on in software on my car and it likes to shut windows and sun roof when it detects any significant amount of rain. I thought I'd stick with it....................... Quote

I wondered if that was it atfirst but the last couple of times it's been dry and no rain for quite a while. Quote

Is the area where the sensor is clean? I think it's one of the two in the mirror cluster facing outwards, easiest seen from outside the car. Quote
