sinbad Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 Hi, my 06 C5 has just come up for its 50,000km service. Apparently both front and back brakes, pads and disks are worn and need to be replaced. We are in Australia and are reeling over the price of the replacements. I just thought that I'd check if replacement after 50,000km is standard, I can't find any estimates on brake life anywhere. Thanks Quote
Johndouglas Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 My C5 has done 55000 miles (88000Kms) and so far all I've done is to replace the rear pads. Discs are both OK. I keep checking the fronts, but they are no way near needing pads. My daughter put her Xsara in for dealer servicing at 12500 miles (for warranty purposes). They told her to bring it back at 15000 miles for a brake check. By then I'd taken over the maintenance of it so it didn't go back. I did in fact put on new discs and pads at 35000 miles. PS. Regarding prices for spares in Aussie-land, it might pay you to consider ordering from UK and paying the carriage. These are two of the companies we use:- http://www.gsfcarparts.com/http://www.eurocarparts.com Quote
paul.h Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 I would remove each wheel and have a look to see if they are worn. If you have a Haynes manual it will give you the minimum thickness of the pads and discs so you can check. The wear depends on the actual use of the car so different people may brake differently and hence the wear may not be comparable with other cars so the importance of checking. Recently I replaced the rear pads and discs on our car at about 33000 miles (53000 km) since one of the discs had corroded since the pads had siezed, otherwise they would have been ok. The fronts are still originals and ok for some time yet. Quote
