Hi All

First time post so be nice to me..!!

I have a 2005 C5 VTR 2.0 HDI 138 and it needs 4 new tyres. Size is 215/55x16. I do 95% motorway driving and like to be comfortable so don't tend to throw the car around so don't need high performance tyres. I do want something that wears well as I do 3000 miles a month and don't want to keep renewing them every few months.

Have done some looking around and am very confused about the tyre reviews etc and the different prices on the online sites.

Basically I am asking for any advice on tyre choices.

Thanks everyone.

I've had my 2005 C5 Exclusive Estate from new and the Michelins on the front only lasted 15000 miles. I didn't fancy paying £135 a corner for new Michelins, so went for Avon ZZ3 at around £90 instead. I managed to get 20000 or so before replacing them with the same. Recently I've changed all four and this time I'm using Barum Bravuris.

The C5 is my third Citroen Estate car and I find it particularly heavy on front tyres. My previous 2.1 Xantia managed to go to 37000 before needing a change on the front.

Our 2004 mark 1 C5 VTR 2.2 hdi hatchback lasted 28k miles on the original Michelin Primacy Pilot so I replaced them with the same (although they were slightly different) Primacy HP. So far after 12k miles they are still ok. The Michelins on our Citroens (Picasso/C4/C3) all seem to have given about 30k miles when needing replacement although the C3 was due to the tyres starting to perish at 35k miles/6½ years rather than all being worn out. In the past on other cars other makes such as Pirelli/Dunlop would give about 15k miles on the front driven wheels. If you live in the Warrington area, Bromley Tyres are usually competitive on prices.

I'm a fan of Marshal Matrac XMs, made by Kumho.

They are about £80 to 85 all in (fitted inc VAT) in the size you mention, I've had them on a 2.2 Estate for a while.

There are some reviews on them, but for me I find them long lasting with good grip. 22,000 miles and about 2/3rds worn on the fronts.

I think you can get then them from Black Circles on t'Internet and specify a fitter locally.

Thanks Guys

I have been looking around online and the barum bravaris 2 seem to have good reviews across a number of different cars. The marshalls also, although some people haven't had good wear from them which is one of my must have's as I do 3k a month.

I've also heard that costco do really good deals on Michelin's - anybody have any details on this??

Coastline - I know you guys run loads of C5's - what's your favoured tyre choice?

Cheers

Rob

PS - what about Falken 452's...??

If you ring up your local Costco they will give you a price over the phone - there is also the £25 annual joining fee if not already a member. I recently had prices from them for 2 different Michelins, one was cheaper and the other dearer than Bromley tyres. Someone I used to work with has used Costco and was happy with them saying it is like a supermarket where you put the tyres in a trolley, pay for them and take them round to the tyre fitting bay. They are open late as well. I guess you know, most places give a discount the more tyres you buy so I always ask.

Thanks Paul, I think there is a costco on my journey home so I'll give them a ring and check out the price.
