Guest annette12 Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 Hope someone can help,,,,I am trying to locate the engine coolant sensor on a c5 estate 2002,,,I have located the header tank sensor,,,thank you. Quote
paul.h Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 I had just put this on your other post, I had thought this was the sensor you had cleaned the connections on already. According to Haynes, for petrol and 1.6/2.0 diesel engines, the coolant temperature sensor is located on the coolant outlet housing on the left hand end of the cylinder head. The RTA French manual shows similar for the 2.2 hdi engine. Quote

paul.h Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 It is in Haynes under the Cooling, heating and ventilation chapter, section 7, page 3.6 Quote
Johndouglas Posted November 19, 2010 Posted November 19, 2010 Annette12. Got your PM to which I replied - but I got a message saying reply hadn't been sent. I'm having to rely on an internet cafe in Spain at the moment. I changed the sensor in our daughter's Xsara which has a similar engine to the C5. I removed the air filter box for access and the sensor is plugged into the end of the cylinder head. There's a twin wired connector on the end of it. The sensor is held in by a hairpin-syle clip and there's an '0' ring under the sensor. You'll lose some water when its removed. Quote
coastline taxis Posted November 19, 2010 Posted November 19, 2010 Hito make the job as easy a possible try thismake sure the engine is coldRemove the air filter housing and the long black hose that goes to the back of the engine. If you have the top engine cover on (black square one with hdi written on it) go to the right hand side of the cover and roughly in the middle of it look down youl see loads of black water pipes and in the middle of then youl see your temp unit. Its green in colour and as john says has a 2 wire multi plug remove plug then remove sensor with 17 or 19 mm socket. just unscrew it out and screw new one in then reconect the multi plug. No special procedures or diagnostics needed. If you havent got the black engine cover on the engine then just follow the top rediator hose and youl come to the same spot Quote
