Guest cancan Posted November 21, 2010 Posted November 21, 2010 Help,help,help- Citroen C5 2.2 HDI estate 2002 model Can any one out there help me. One morning 4 weeks ago I fired up the c5 and was welcomed by the service light and the following on the display panel. "Brake fault, ABS fault, ESP/ASR deactivated". At exactly the same time the speedo went crazy and started bobbing up and down between 0 and 30 mph, even when I was doing approx 60 mph.I carried on regardless expecting the light to go out( as normally happens) but no, here I am 4 weeks later and already £ 400.00 poorer with no fix. My local mechanic wasn't able to access into the system with no communication. Off to the local Citroen dealer who gave me half hour diagnostic. The feedback was " No communication in BSI, Engine and instrument panel, checked maxi fuses in BSI all ok,need longer to check feeds etc et ECU, but suspect will require replacement ABS ECU. After being offered a Citroen part at £ 700.00 I found a replacement part via internet and replaced the unit. All to no avail as the problem still exists. Also the speedo is not working at all and I have noticed on starting the car none of the dials work at all only to work after the ignition is turned off and on again. The performance of the car is not affected but as I am wishing to move it on in the near future am desperate to find a fix ASAP. ( At a reasnoble cost) Other info which maybe relevant. Rear window was smashed and replaced 18 months ago and 6 months later the magnetic catch gave me the usual problem of opening when I opened the car. Due to the PITA factor my local mechanic disconnected the power feed and left it disconnected. Also the rear wiper hasn't worked for about the same time.I also used a trailor in the summer and since doing so when using the right indicator the beep sound comes on but not when the left one is used. I appreciate this may totally irrelevant but the elctrical gremlins seem to have taken hold of the beast. Please, pleaseplease can anyone help. Quote
Randombloke Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Can I assume it's an estate? Looks to me like there is damage to the wiring in the rear. Disconnecting the power to the rear was not the answer, there are threads on here explaining how to solve the rear button problem, complete with pictures, 20 minutes and minimal tools. Replace the rear glass release button. Fixing the rear glass release button Clear the rear wiring faults. If it's an estate, the trailer unit is probably underneath the trim to the left or right side of the boot. Next, before changing anything the integrity of all connectors and earths needs to be done. Also, after fitting the replacement part were all the fault codes cleared? It's also important if you want DIY to get the actual fault code number. For speedo problems, search the forum. The instructions for this fix have been typed many times. Quote
coastline taxis Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 before you go any further you need to talk to the ecu check the fuses inside the glove box im sure the obd fuse is top row 3rd or 4th from the right also go and get your battery and alternator checked its normally free from the discount stores for a batt/alternator test Quote
Guest cancan Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Thanks I really appreciate the advice. Will start the process as you,ve described. Is it possible then all these items are related? Quote
paul.h Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 They could all be related, people here have reported all sorts of problems with the electrics often related to a poor battery. Also, the speedo reading comes via the abs system which is also used in the ESP system. Check if the brake lights work ok to see if the brake pedal switch is working. Where are you located, somebody here may recommend a good garage ? Quote
Guest cancan Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 I am near shrewsbury just north on the A49. Will check brake pedal as described. I had already read threads about apoor battery affecting things. Will get that checked also.Yes it is an estate. Quote
