Any help acknowledged..thanks.........Dave Silly question but - are the lenses dirty? If they are clean, and you're sure both bulbs are working and the battery is OK, your only option is to upgrade to Xenon (dipped beam only), but that would be very expensive - not just a simple bulb change. If you suspect the alignment is out, you should get them properly checked and aligned at a garage that does MOT's. Due to the self-levelling suspension on the C5, there is no user adjustment provided. Quote
coastline taxis Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 The general beleif is that c5 headlights cant be adjusted but they can. Open the bonnet and on the top of the headlight youl see where a alan key goes in for adjustment theres 2 on each headlight 1 for up/down and 1 for laft/right. people get a bit mixed up regarding the adjustment and what you cant do is adjust them from inside the car. Other cars have a switch inside to adjust the headlight when the back end of the car is down c5s dont as the suspension keeps the car level. One other thing to check is to make sure the bulbs arnt in upside down as youl get no beam pattern of the lights. Put your car facing a wall with the lights on if you have what looks like a circle on the wall your bulbs are upside down what you want is a straight line with the outer edge of the line going up at a angle Quote

If you set them too high, you can dazzle people and cause an accident. Sorry to be picky Quote
coastline taxis Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 No problem at all just his posting is saying the lights are pointing to the ground so they are the adjusters he needs to use to lift the lights up or the back end of the car is sitting to high Quote
paul.h Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 Without the proper alignment kit, I find it easiest to point the car at a wall and make sure the level part of the light pattern on dip beam is lower at the wall than at the car headlight - how much lower depends on how near to the wall you are. Also the part of the beam where it starts to go up to the side should be in line with the car or slightly to the left. The light from each headlight should be set up the same with the level part at the same height. Then when it goes for an MOT see if it passes. In the past, this was in the Haynes manuals but now they say to have it done at a garage. Quote
Guest kimosabe Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 Thanks for all the advice guysseefive...yes the lenses are clean and brightSteve...Thanks for the advice on setting the headlights etc..will check this out when the snow clears.Paul...Thanks for your advice also.CheersDave Quote
ando7p Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 Sounds daft, but also worth checking the bulb is actually seated right. Had to change mine recently and noticed that it wasn't seated when I looked for the retaining clip using a torch and mirror. Bulb replaced but alignment a mile out now. Quote

It's worth noting the following taken from a supplier of these kits:- NO XENON H.I.D. lighting system available from any source is DOT / E approved if installed outside of the factory. These kits are not street legal for use on public roads as they are. Quote

Me with non DOT approved lights is the least of your worries!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) Watch out for all the drunk and drugged drivers whilst we have very little road policing these days! The HID kit was a DIY, no problem for a auto sparky, the uprated lamps I have taken a 4mm supply straight off the battery and fitted 40A relays inside the headlamp units! 100% improvement, need any help just shout! Excellent upgrade, just hope you don't get pulled in a joint VOSA/Police vehicle inspection, but as you state "That is the least of OUR worries" Quote
Guest kimosabe Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 Well guys took the C5 for its MOT today, passed, as I thought it would with not even an advisory.I had the tester have a good look on the beam tester and he said it was spot on.(still too low when driving in the dark in my opinion tho)Looks like I'll have to invest in brighter bulbs...
