DaveHerns Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 I'm a bit concerned that GSF sold me Carlube fully synth 5w/30 for my car . This was what their book said .I'm sure I've used 10w/40 before Is it OK on the thin stuff -seems to be going a treat ? Quote
Johndouglas Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 Is it OK on the thin stuff -seems to be going a treat ? I would say i's fine - especially in the winter months. Should help cold starting and probably give you a bit better consumption. Quote
paul.h Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 I think I saw somewhere in the French RTA (ETAI) manual for the mark 2 C5 that if you have a particulate filter in the exhaust then you should only use 5W/40 or 10w/40 and not the w/30 energy saving oils. However, it should say in your car handbook on what is allowed. Quote
DaveHerns Posted January 23, 2011 Author Posted January 23, 2011 The handbook would suggest 10w/40 but I'll do an oil change before the summer (if we get one )What I hadn't noted is that you need full synthetic with a PDF filter and I'm sure it's had semi-synth up too nowHowever it's going well , doesn't use oil or smoke Quote
