When the weather warms up again you may get an extra 10-20% mpg. This is the sort of reduction we see on our cars and then will bring you nearer to the official mpg of 42.8/58.8/53.3 urban/extra urban/combined mpg. We have the 1.6 hdi engine in our C4 and that performs well and gives good economy (50 to 60 mpg at normal road/motorway speeds) but it only weighs about 1300 kg vs the C5 about 1500 kg. The reference to binding brakes can be checked by jacking up each wheel and seeing if they all spin freely - if not the pads should be removed and the calipers cleaned up to remove any dust.

Haynes is a bit vague, whilst showing a tps in the engine management line drawing (for your engine) and then saying it may be part of the throttle body (fig 13.27 ?).
-
If it was ok before you started the work then maybe you have not bled out the air fully from the filter before trying to start. The procedure may be in the car handbook and the Haynes manual.
-
Maybe there is some air in the heater matrix that needs bleeding out of the coolant. I think there is a bleed point on one of the hoses. Have a look in the Haynes manual for details. Also check the coolant level is ok.

Whilst doing the service the car may have gone into eco mode - after about 15 mins or more, the car will stop electrical stuff such as radio/internal lights/etc to prevent the battery going flat. You need to switch on the ignition to reset this - all the Citroens we have do this, not just the C5 and Peugeots may be the same. If the internal light still does not come on then either try the switches on it in case it has been switched off for when the doors are opened or maybe the bulb needs replacing. There is a set procedure for disconnecting the battery which is in the car handbook and also on this forum somewhere. Towbars normally have the relays in the boot area with a feed direct from the battery unless a Citroen wiring kit is used. It then connects to the towbar socket and the rear lighting wiring. Limp mode may be due to spilling the fuel - try again when the filter is sorted. If the air con pipe is loose (and then you removed it) then the refrigerant has been lost so it will not work. Did the window work before the service ?

Wac, if you remember, could you let us know how the Champions perform after they are a few months old. Over the years I have found that Valeo blades tend to last the longest whilst still performing well when compared to such as Bosch, Halfords and Champion but this may have changed now.

I have also noticed iannez and techbod have not been on this site for a while, wonder if they have had the same problem ? iannez is particularly missed as a Citroen technician.

A dab of grease can sometimes hold bits in place when assembling. Some obvious things which I am sure you have done - fasten the top bolts down diagonally to make sure the top is fastened down evenly on the large seal (like a cylinder head), the photo of the underside of the top looks as if it is before cleaning up/refitting but make sure the seating area for the large seal is cleaned out and the flat top/body joint surfaces are cleaned of surface corrosion with a flat file so this does not prevent the top fitting flat. Did you find anything that would have caused the leak such as any damage to the seals like perishing/going hard/swelling/cuts or maybe corrosion that has lifted the top slightly (like the rear brake calipers) ?

53 plate mk2 - the mark 2 did not come out until mid 2004 so a typing error or you have a mark 1 or a 54 plate or registration has been changed. To activate the auto locking, with the engine on, press and hold the dash door lock button and after a few seconds it will beep and a message will come up.

Flat ones look nice but cost around £40 to 50 for 2. I have thought about doing the reverse of what you have done.

Do not think I can help but a bit more info will help others. Year/model/mileage of car, does the engine turn over on the starter and if so is this at usual revs, where is the ticking noise coming from, anything noticed before the problem began, have you tried the spare key, what voltage did your charger go up to and any particular reason for not disconnecting the battery before charging, can you hear the fuel pump in the tank when trying to start, is there petrol in the tank ?
-
Apparently, depending on the C3 model/year, the wiper switch stalk may only be available as part of the Comms 2000 unit which includes the indicator stalk and the ring around the steering column, cost around £100 to £150 depending on the car. So, a problem in this control unit can affect the wipers.

With the hpi engine there are 2 fuel pumps - one in the fuel tank which is probably the one you are hearing, and the high pressure one at the engine end which may be the problem. However, if the fuel tank pump is not working then the hp pump will not have anything to pump either but then you may not even get a few seconds running. Haynes shows the pressure measurement taken after the hp pump and pressure regulator. From the pictures, it looks as if the hp pump is mechanically driven so it will not have any fuses/relays. When I had the fuel pump fail on a Saab 9000 (about 150k miles), the engine would turn over but not start and you could not hear the pump in the tank. The RAC confirmed voltage at the pump and also by squirting a starting fluid in to the air intake at the throttle body it ran it for a few seconds which confirmed the fuel supply was the problem. Here there was only a pump in the tank to replace. How many miles has your car done ?

The 2 different pages are identical but allow different uses. These give distance travelled since reset, average mpg since last reset, average speed since reset. The car handbook (page 57 in ours) gives as an example using 1 page for daily checks and the 2nd page for monthly checks. In our case I tend to just use one page as a single trip to give mpg and distance travelled on that trip - it is a pity you can not put in the distance to be travelled and let it count down to avoid the mental calcs on the way. The 2nd page tends not to be used and when I checked after seeing your post I saw that it was on 6214 miles which is almost 10000 km so guess the max is 9999 km which is about 6214 miles. If wanted, I could reset the 2nd page every time the fuel tank is filled to see actual mpg against amount of fuel put in. The 3rd page gives distance left in fuel tank (which will vary depending on instantaneous mpg), instantaneous mpg, distance remaining to be travelled if you have NaviDrive.
-
When you say 'lost all power' - is this just the engine not running or do you also have no electrical power ? What electrical equipment is still working, does the starter motor turn over, etc ?
-
The usual way to reset the trip computer is to hold in the button on the end of the wiper stalk (as opposed to a quick push to change the page) then the values will go to zero. Do this for each of the 3 displays. You will get a more accurate current mpg and distance to empty fuel tank if you regularly do this reset. 6214 may be the max value it goes to.

Dirt or frozen ? If so a swill with warm water may help.

A google search brought up the BBA reman website which for P1113 gives P1113 Intake air temperature (IAT) sensor circuit open/short EDC16C3 - Diesel high pressure regulation circuit. Rail pressure below minimum pressure So you could have a problem with the intake air temperature sensor or low fuel pressure which would possibly be the fuel pump (and would tie up with the thread linked by kimosabe). If the car had a carburettor and a choke it reminds me of problems when the choke is not set right so it would run just for a short while - on a fuel injection car this relates to the temperature measurement not being right so giving the wrong fuel mixture. A temperature sensor check is easy, check the connector/pins are clean and wiring is ok. If you have a code reader that gives live data then you can read the temperature from the sensor. Haynes gives the sensor location (page 4A.14)as integral with the throttle housing for the direct injection engine but on the underside or front of the throttle housing for the other petrol engines. From what I have seen on this forum a new hpi fuel pump is expensive so hope it is not that. If you are in the AA/RAC with something like homestart, they may be able to help diagnose the fault.

Register on the Citroen service website (http://service.citroen.com/do/logout) as a member of a motoring club (this one) and you will see all the parts diagrams as used by the dealers.

The usual services only change oil and filters so unlikely this would increase fuel consumption. With this cold weather the engine takes longer to warm up so needs more fuel and winter diesel has a different composition so it does not freeze and block the fuel system which also increases consumption. I have seen our petrol C3 and diesel C4 drop about 10 to 20% mpg depending on journey length.
-
If the washer jets have frozen on our C3, the pump fuse will always blow if it is tried to run the washer pump for more than a second or so. Once melted though things are ok so the pump should not need replacing.

Changing Headlights To Lhd Configuration
paul.h replied to a topic in Questions about the Citroen C5
A new headlight at eurocarparts range from about £150 to £500 depending on the chassis no. for RHD. Probably LHD would be similar so it is worth getting a few prices before commiting to a car. -
Possibly a worn wheel bearing. Steering left or right if the noise changes may help pin point the wheel but this is not always accurate. Jack up each wheel in turn and spin it to see if there is any noise / rock the wheel holding top and bottom to see if there is any play. If it goes when the clutch pedal is pushed it could also be a gearbox bearing but unlikely at a low mileage.
-
Maybe the wiper switch needs changing or its internal contacts cleaning if it can be taken apart or switch cleaner squirted in. Could also be a loose connector.

Haynes do a manual for the Berlingo so that should give you the info. They are sometimes in libraries if you do not wish to buy one.
