C2 1.1 L No Start No Spark After Fitting A Subwoofer
Johndouglas replied to jmkfoggo0754's topic in C2 - Technical
Disconnect the battery for a short time - then reconnect. However do it this way:- Put the driver's window down, lift the bonnet and ensure all equipment is switched off. Ensure all doors are closed and remove key from the ignition. Wait for 3 minutes, disconnect the vehicle battery and wait 15 seconds. Reconnect the vehicle battery, wait a further 10 seconds (do not open doors.). Switch on the side lights through the driver's window. Switch on the ignition and check system's functionality. Hold lock button on key down for 10 seconds. Remove key open & close door test central locking system. Start the engine and complete the system's check. Reset the clock and date. Failure to follow this procedure could result in incorrect operation of some of the BSI related items. -
C5 2.0 Hdi 90 Suspension Stuck On Low

Check the plug connection on the pump. Also the earthing. -
Hello & welcome to the forum.

According to Parkers the C8 makes a reasonable buy. A while back there was a topic running on the forum started by an owner whose cambelt had snapped at a comparatively low mileage. It seems that hers wasn't an isolated case because other C8s had also experienced broken belts. The 2ltr engine in the C8 is the same unit used in the C5 where it is regarded as being long-lived. I believe the C8's fault was in allowing rain water to drip onto the front engine cover allowing the belt to get wet. The auto gearboxes don't appear to have a very long life before developing faults, so maybe a manual would be a better option. I have no experience of C8s although there's an owner in the next road to me. The guy has had it from new in 2002 and has just replaced it with a 2014 model.

Help! Oil Level Sensor After Engine Work
Johndouglas replied to stuartadair's topic in Pluriel - Technical
You maybe have knocked a wire off. I believe it's on the back of the engine at the gearbox end. -

We're maybe not expecting snow in April but I always carried these Autosocks when I took the C5 to Spain in the winter. Although they are a few years old, they haven't been out of the bag since buying them. They were bought for the 215.55x16 C5 wheels but they also fit other combinations. Unfortunately not 225.55x17. They retail at almost £65. If they fit your car they can be yours for £25+£5P&P. http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i53/Johndug/P1030635.jpg http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i53/Johndug/P1030633.jpg

Now that my C5 has gone to its new owner I have some surplus parts to move. First is a new set of front brake cables complete with left and right guide tubes. These retail at around £60 so they are available for £30 plus a tenner for P&P. Second is a 16" Suzuka spare Alloy Wheel with a 215.55x16" Pirelli P7 tyre. The alloy is in excellent condition and the tyre has 4mm of tread on it. £30+£10 for the wheel. If you're interested, send me a message. See piccys below. EDIT: The cables have been sold. EDIT: The wheel has been sold

I believe yours is an 80 ltr fuel tank, so if you were close to empty, £100 should just about fill it. So probably your fuel gauge is faulty. One way to find out is to see if it will take more at another station. If you haven't been 'done' it should automatically shut off quite quickly.

I've never driven or worked on a 2.2 engine but my 2ltr C5 has kept me happy for nine years years. I have read opinions about the 2.2's on this forum from guys whose opinions I respect. Some have said that they are best avoided; that they are more complicated and use more fuel for very little extra performance over the 2ltr engines. However the car you have been using may just need the accelerator cable readjusting to remove the slack.

A Citroen catching fire is a first for this forum. Tell us about the events leading to the fire.
-
I would have thought it should open with the key, although if there's any life in the battery, the alarm would sound until the key is in the ignition lock.
-
Currently Citroen do the C5 in 1.6ltr and the 160 2ltr diesels. They don't list it with petrol engines and the bigger diesels also seem to have been dropped. Not even a C6 now with a bigger engine.

If you don't damage the clips, they can go back on, but they could be rusty. Maybe have a jubilee clip handy.

Ideally the fitter should test the system for leaks before regassing and the job takes 30 minutes or so. Cost was around £65 per car. But as you say, it shouldn't be necessary on a four year old vehicle.
-
How old is the car? It might be that it needs regassing. My 2005 model needed done a couple of years ago since it wasn't blowing very cold. I got a mobile guy to do the C5 and the Xsara

Playing Radio With The Engine Off
Johndouglas replied to Jim Hardie's topic in Questions about the Citroen C5
On your C5 you shouldn't need to have the warning lights on. With the engine off, just switch the radio on. It'll stay on until the economy mode cuts in. Duration will be dependant on the health of your battery. Anything from five minutes up to half an hour. -
Bosch Or Siemens Injection System
Johndouglas replied to davidjgrover's topic in Petrol Diesel & LPG Injection
I can't guarantee that this will apply to late C5 engines, but it does to older Xsara engines. Does the system have a hand primer close to the fuel filter? If it has, it's Siemans. If not, it will have a lift pump in the tank, so it's Bosch. -
It's no big deal disconnecting the battery - providing you do it correctly. The method has been put on the forum several times but you can find it on post 7 here:- http://www.citroen-owners-club.co.uk/citroen/topic/15093-bsi-reset/
-
Try applying the footbrake gently as you maintain speed on the accelerator. It will rule out any movement of the brake pads.

With Citroen C5's there's a procedure for disconnecting and reconnecting the battery. Whether the same would apply to Xsara's I don't know. Certainly if you carried out the same procedure it wouldn't do any harm. This is it:- Put the driver's window down, lift the bonnet and ensure all equipment is switched off. Failure to follow this procedure could result in incorrect operation of many BSI related items.

Is your battery in good condition? Have you jump started it recently? When the battery is well charged you could try disconnecting the negative cable for a short while. Make sure you have the radio code written down.
