I don't think you need to worry about XP not being supported. Too many companies are still using it. The company one of my daughters works for is in the process of issuing new laptops to all the staff who work from home. It's a slow business because the IT department has to modify every new computer so that it will run on XP.

Front Brake Pad And Disc Replacement
Johndouglas replied to PICASSOCONVERT's topic in Problems and Fixes - C5
KFK admits at the bottom of his pinned post that it's copied from the 'net and I guess it wasn't specifically about the C5 - although he does mention winding back in C5 fashion. The pin and it's R retaining clip is misleading and as far as C5's go, shouldn't be there , however some front calipers do use such an arrangement, my Pug 306 has them for one. -
2013 C4 1.6Hdi 115 H.p. 6 Speed Manual Exclusive
Johndouglas replied to mikeparkins's topic in C4 - General
Hello Mike & welcome to the forum. We must have started driving at about the same time!! Yes - it's been known for many years that any turbo driven engine should be allowed to tick over for a short while before switching off. The reason being that when the turbo is at full power, it's spinning at around 130,000 revs per minute. When it comes off boost, it carries on spinning for some time. If you quickly cut the engine, the turbo still spins but without any oil pressure in the bearings - hence rapid wear. Likewise it's kinder to allow the oil pressure to build before the engine starts spinning the turbo. However the turbo doesn't start work until the engine reaches 1500+ revs. so all that's needed here is a slowish build up of speed. To prolong the life of your engine it's most important that the oil changes are carried out at or before the appointed times. The 1.6Hdi seems to be particularly prone to turbo failure if oil changes are neglected. -
Death Of A C4 - Turbo Failure But No Warning

I've always believed that main dealers when trading in cars over three years old handed them to the general car trade or put them through the auction. -
Front Brake Pad And Disc Replacement
Johndouglas replied to PICASSOCONVERT's topic in Problems and Fixes - C5
Yes - the tool you need is a Torx socket. From memory I think it's a T55 that you need. Look on ebay and you'll find sets of six or so for around a tenner. -
Rear Brakes - Do Not Be Afraid! Disc Replacement
Johndouglas replied to PICASSOCONVERT's topic in Problems and Fixes - C5
This corrosion problem between the arms and the calipers has been an ongoing problem since the first BX left the factory. I had it on mine. It continued with the Xantia and in 9 years of ownership with the C5, I've cleaned them up twice. I find a coating of copper grease keeps them reasonable well. Being a cynic, Citroen probably doesn't solve the problem so that it become a nice little earner for the dealers. -

Have you checked all the earthing straps? -
BT recommend that the router be left on all the time - maybe because it does the same as the Orange one?? Who knows! Anyway I leave mine on unless I'm going to be away for long periods. All the customer service staff is in India, but they do have a huge technical website which becomes accessible on joining. It includes a chat facility whereby you can 'talk' with an advisor by typing. It suits me well because I can never understand them! Email has been handled by Yahoo but recently BT has taken it back and they handle it themselves, with email accounts been accessed through the BT website, which on my laptop I use as the homepage.. Getting a BT email address was no problem, although I do still have my old Orange address, and emails to it - mostly old spam - automatically come through with the new ones.
-
I used to be with Orange and the service was very good - until I needed assistance. I found it impossible to get any real help with customer service just fobbing me off. Several times they tested the phone line and each time they declared the line to be in order. The trouble was that for hours at a time I was without any internet connection. The router that Orange provided in addition to giving an internet connection, also gave me a second phone line with it's own number which worked rather like Skype. Whenever the internet connection failed, I discovered that I could sometimes restore it by phoning from one number to the other. It took several attempts each time but usually the internet returned. It began to happen so frequently that I decided to change provider. I decided to try BT with their package that gives free phone calls. Immediately I began the process of changing, Openreach discovered a break on my wire close to where it left the telegraph post. After the new cable was installed I've had no further trouble - other than BT ringing me and suggesting I change to fibre optic!!!

If indeed there is a part missing or broken on your handbrake equalizer bar, there's a complete handbrake for sale on ebay. A tenner isn't too much to pay to get the complete lever, then swop the bar.

can anyone point me in the right direction to find the sensor. This may or may not help. I replaced the temperature sensor on 2ltr 8valve engine and found the sensor in the end of the block. As Paul said, the sensor was held in place by an inverted U-shaped clip which enters from the top and slots into a grove on the sensor. I recall it was necessary to remove some trunking to gain access.

Welcome to the forum. Yes I've just read about your problems. Your engine is going into limp mode because the particle filter is blocked and probably your Eolys fluid needs topping up. What's the mileage?

C3 Nearside Front Coil Spring Replaced... But Whats Going On?
Johndouglas replied to poxxxy's topic in C3 - Technical
It certainly doesn't look right. Make sure the lower end of the coil is sitting tight up against the 'stopl' in the lower seat. Are you sure you've got the correct spring. There seems to be eight different springs listed for variants of the C3. Also they usually recommend that they are fitted as a matched pair. -
Now you tell me :D You have the same trouble a me. Every time I start the engine and drive away I get the message "Additive level low". During the summer I had to have my fuel tank drained. The garage that did it knew I'd had the DPF removed and I think they helped themselves to the Eolys still left in the tank. The message didn't appear before the tank removal - only afterwards. I just ignore the message but one of these days I'll get around to putting a pint or so of diesel in there. It won't go anywhere.
-
Eventually, because there is no Eolys in the diesel fuel, the FAP filter won't regenerate and it will become totally blocked. At which point the engine won't run correctly. There is an alternative to refilling the Eolys tank. That is to have the FAP filter removed altogether. Briefly what happens is the exhaust system is dropped. The cat box is unbolted from the FAP filter, the innards is knocked out of the filter and the two boxes rejoined. Then the exhaust is replaced. Afterwards the car's ECU needs to be rewritten with the regeneration programme removed. It's a tried and tested method. My own C5 was done two years ago and it's done 1000's of miles since without problems. The cost is no more than that of an Eoylis refill. To find details for your own area Google "DPF removal in where you live".

A Few Questions About Mk3 Tourer - Buying
Johndouglas replied to kaliope's topic in Questions about the Citroen C5
The rear arm corrosion problem has been around since the BX came onto the scene. It continued through the life of the Xantia and has now continued in the C5. I'd be surprised if Citroen have done anything to prevent it. -
If your Eolys reservoir needs refilling you can DIY. You'll need to remove the n/s rear wheel and maybe the wheel arch liner. You'll find the reservoir alongside the end of the fuel tank. GSF, dealers and ebay sell refill kits, but note there are two types of fluid - one for early engines and another for later ones. Your RP number will indicate which one. Having refilled the tank the car's computer needs to be told and you'll need to find someone with a Lexia to do that.

Hello To All From Thessaloniki, Greece !
Johndouglas replied to Praktoras's topic in New Member Introduction
Hello Dimitris and welcome to the forum. We will look forward to hearing from you -
Yes - I'm one of those that uses an additive to the diesel fuel tank. The one that I use is Millers Ecomax. The claim is that by using it at a rate of 1:1000, the cetane rating of the fuel is raised by 4. Standard pump diesel has a cetane rating of 51 and premium diesel is 55, so by using the Ecomax, standard diesel is equivalent to premium. So they say  Each year I have four vehicles to take to MOT. In the month before each test I dose the vehicle with a double strength treatment and by test time, the engine usually gets a fast pass.

When comparing one ride height with another, bear in mind other influences. Tyre pressures and wheel size. Both will alter the ground to wheel arch measurement. Incidentally, my wheels are 215.55x16 inflated to 2.5bar

What machine were they using? To get a full diagnostic reading, it needs to be a Lexia or Planet.
