To make a good job of it, it would be best to mask the whole bumper and spray all of it. You'll need to rub down parts which have already been scrubbed. Halfords do large spray cans of black paint both in matt finish and satin.

I've had my 2005 C5 Exclusive Estate from new and the Michelins on the front only lasted 15000 miles. I didn't fancy paying £135 a corner for new Michelins, so went for Avon ZZ3 at around £90 instead. I managed to get 20000 or so before replacing them with the same. Recently I've changed all four and this time I'm using Barum Bravuris. The C5 is my third Citroen Estate car and I find it particularly heavy on front tyres. My previous 2.1 Xantia managed to go to 37000 before needing a change on the front.

What year is it?

I've had my bumper off twice - the replacement side light bulbs only lasted one year. Now I've replaced them with LEDs. I think I'd rather remove the bumper than mess around taking out the LDS tank. Even with the lamp unit off the car it isn't all that easy to reach the sidelight bulb. I needed a pair of pointed pliers to reach it.

Try something like this:- http://www.breakerlink.com/index.php There are others.

Why would anyone want to buy a VTR C5 without hydraulic suspension. Might just as well go for a Mondeo.
-
Present day Exclusives don't have xenons. If you want them they come as a very expensive extra....... Big mistake Citroen!

Here is the letter - in case anyone wants to carry a copy:- CITROEN UK C5 Exclusive 2.0 hdi. I can confirm that there is no legal requirement to mask right-hand drive headlamps for use on the continent. This is due to the Z pattern beam that is created by the Xenon headlights, fitted as standard on the Citroën C5 Exclusive models, rather than a standard flat beam on conventional headlights. The only stipulation is that the headlamps do not dazzle oncoming drivers and this applies equally to driving here in the UK as to abroad. In addition, the C5 has Hydractive self-levelling suspension and, therefore, there is not the risk of dazzling usually associated with a heavily laden vehicle. cukcustomer_relations@citroen.com C5 Exclusive.2.O hdi.

Of my average 10000 miles a year that my C5 does, about 7000 of them are done on EU roads. When I first got the car I asked Citroen UK to put it in writing that the HID headlamps didn't need masks. They wrote me the letter, also giving me a copy in French. I keep it in the car - needless to say, I've never had to hand it over.

C5 '02 Hdi 'water In Diesel Warning'
Johndouglas replied to GreenBlood's topic in Problems and Fixes - C5
Wow! In that case, after I'd made sure there was no water present in the bowl, I'd disconnect the sensor and manage without. After all, many fuel filter don't have a sensor. We once owned two diesel Pug 205s - one had a 'water in the fuel' light; the other one didn't. -

Maybe the sensor is telling 'porkies'. If there's no water in the bowl, might be worth trying another sensor. -
No washers - No Xenon lights. By law, HID lights have to be self-cleaning and self-levelling. With the C5, the hyraulic suspension is sufficient. Here's a piccy of one:- http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i53/Johndug/scan0001.jpg PS. Xenons don't need beam masks, others do.

Mot Failure .... End Of The Road?
Johndouglas replied to Yox's topic in Questions about the Citroen Xantia
Right! I would suggest asking on http://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/ to see if anyone can recommend a Cit Indy in Bristol area. There are one or two guys on the forum that run Activas. Tell them your problems and they might help. -
Mot Failure .... End Of The Road?

Am I right? Spanish MOT stations don't do repairs? I would find yourself an independent garage. I don't know how close you are to Malaga but there's an English guy who has his own garage on the opposite side of the highway from the Airport. I think it might be Avenue de Villa Rosa. A few years ago I lost all the LHM from my Xantia and I had the car lifted to his garage. He'd diagnosed the trouble and had a new anti-sink valve fitted by the end of the next day. If you like your Activa, it's worth having it done. -

I don't - but if I were to guess, I'd go for the bottom one. After all, that's where the water is likely to be. -

But maybe your message applies to the FAP filter. That's the one that starts sending messages. Ignore it and I believe the car eventually goes into 'limp home' mode. -
Open the glove box. At the back there's a little flap that pulls off. The OBD socket is over to the left

By spraying water on the engine, there's no way it could get inside the fuel filter. My guess is that some dampness has penetrated the electrical connection and it's operating like the sensor. As it dries out all should be well. -
Yes! They didn't comment on them. Thought they would notice the residual light after they were switched off, but they didn't. Talking of MOTs - I've got the third of our four cars booked for Monday morning. Been busy fitting new brake cables on the Pug since it got an advisory last year. Fingers crossed.

There's one for sale on ebay. Currently £3.20 with two days to run.
-
I hadn't really considered. I always keep the lights on auto so when the sidelights are on, the dipped beams are on as well.
-
In theory, yes. But wouldn't it take a lot of tries?
-
Initially it takes quite a bit of pumping on the pedal and pulling on the handbrake to get the pistons back out again but once done they don't need any more adjusting. Since I was opening the bleed valves, I took the opportunity to change the brake fluid. It hadn't been done in five years. Ten days later I took the car for MOT and it passed OK so the brakes must have been satisfactory.

If you join the Yahoo C5 site, you'll find a file on the site showing an exploded view of the rear arm bearings and a list of parts. http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/C5-L/
