Another Newbie With Questions.
Johndouglas replied to yellowhillman's topic in Questions about the Citroen C5
I currently have a 2010 C5-X7 and the handling is not much different to my previous C5 - in spite of the earlier car having hydraulic suspension. Taking bends without too much slowing down is superb. Maybe the extra width of the tyres, compared to the previous car is helping. The lack of hydraulic only becomes apparent when driving on really rough surfaces. -
Maybe better to read your battery voltage before the first start tomorrow morning. It should read around 12.7
-
When I had my previous C5 I sometimes got the power steering fault first thing after starting. I eventually discovered that it was all triggered by the battery voltage being too low - although it wasn't low enough to prevent the car from starting.. A new battery solved the problem.
-
The guy had his own Lexia so I presume since he was posting about it, he'd corrected the fault which was vibrations when pulling away.
-
A few weeks ago I was reading on another forum about a similar problem on a egs autobox. Apparently the cure was to have the car connected to a lexia, run a diagnostic check on the car, then select the gearbox ecu and run a calibration programme.

There's one on ebay. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Citroen-C5-C8-Peugeot-406-807-2-2-HDI-Engine-Oil-Sump-Pan-/111731297919?hash=item1a03b44e7f:g:q5QAAOSwKIpV-oSO

My second daughter bought a 90bhp Xsara new in 2002 and kept it until last year when she part ex'd it for a 3month old 1.6 C4. I got her Xsara through every MOT with just normal service and maintenance of brakes etc. I see on the DVLA website that its new owner also recently got a new MOT with just a tail & headlight bulb being required. 145000 miles. She would love to have kept it but her company would no longer pay her mileage allowance because of its age.

I don't want to be a 'wet blanket' but your warning will be back in due course. The thing to do is to get your filter cleaned or changed. I believe that some 'new' ones are filters that have been recycled by cleaning.

Were they good quality drop links? Some cheap versions don't last 5 minutes. Also check the tyre pressure in the front tyre. Maybe it's too high.

Parking Sensors With Towbar Problem
Johndouglas replied to hannah_gleeson's topic in Problems and Fixes - C5
On my 2005 facelifted Exclusive there was a switch on the dashboard which turned off the sensors. I think if you want the system to ignore the tow ball, the towbar wiring needs to be a dedicated Citroen kit programmed by Lexia.. My present C5 estate didn't come with reverse sensors however, I've fitted a kit but with only the two outer ones so as to avoid the fixed towball. -
The eolys fluid increases the temperature of the particle filter to help it burn off the collected soot. Over time the filter then gets blocked with ash. Using the wrong type of engine oil can lead to an increase in ash. It's the ash which needs to be removed either by fitting a new filter or removing the old one and cleaning it. DIY can be achieved by an overnight soak in an alkaline solution and then a wash through with a jet wash.
-
That used to be a possibility to get rid of the particle filter, but even then the car's ecu needed to be over-written. In the last two years the practice has been made illegal for road-going cars. Also if your insurers discovered the absence of a filter, they would cancel your policy leaving you facing a charge of driving without insurance.

At 8 months old the fault should be covered on warranty. I haven't heard of it happening on other C4s. My daughter has an 18month old C4 and it has no signs of leaking.

New Member Looking At Buying Advice.
Johndouglas replied to Scotty23's topic in Questions about the Citroen C5
Hello & welcome. First I've deleted one of your posts because it's better to keep replies to only one topic. You probably know that there are four different diesel engines fitted to the C5. The 1.6hdi; the 2ltr; the 2.2ltr and the 3ltr. The 2ltr is by far the most popular. Also by 2008 the hydraulic suspension was dropped from the C5 range except for the highest spec Exclusive model. All the lesser specs have steel springs similar to Peugeots. When the new model became available it brought a few teething problems which gradually became apparent. One of the more troublesome faults is the leakage of steering fluid. We have a section on the forum devoted to common problems. See it here:- http://www.citroen-owners-club.co.uk/citroen/topic/20279-common-problems-rev-4102015/ -

Hello & welcome back to Citroen. The C5 is a great car with the 2ltr 160 engine being the most popular. It has (in my opinion) all the performance you'll ever need with out trying to find a decent 3ltr model. By 2010, many of the faults which plagued the 2008/9 models seem to have disappeared but you'll only find the hydraulic suspension on the Exclusive versions - not throughout as in previous years. I cannot advise on the electric seats as I don't have them, but on my previous C5 which was a Mk2 Exclusive, that had three switches located at the base of the seat. That gave forward and backward movement together with reclining of the backrest. To keep the autobox in good condition it's advisable to have the fluid changed each year. Yes - the non-movement of the switch gear in the centre of the wheel takes a bit of getting used to. For the first few hundred miles I often found my fingers getting pinched. -
Zx Estate Parts - Rear Light Needed
Johndouglas replied to fernr1's topic in Questions about the Citroen ZX
You could try a ring to Eurocarparts. They may not hold them in stock but they can get them for some older models -
I can't help you with the owner's name and address however I can tell you that your friends old car passeded its last MOT on the 3 July when it had 104300 miles on its clock. Paul - (Nice to see you back.....) One of my neighbours has a similar reg number. The three letters are his name initials - so maybe LJX is likewise - maybe!

You haven't mentioned the year of your C5 - but I wonder if it's a 2008/9 model. If so, leaking steering racks is a common problem on vehicles of these years. If you search the C5 forum you'll find we have a big section dealing with common problems. Paragraph 25 is the one you want. Here's an extract:- 25. New C5 (mark 3/X7) steering rack oil leaks - at least 8 cases so far. We have 2 members jefflad and Howiec with steering rack leaks that are proving difficult to fix. Where the supply and return pipes join the rack, the seals are leaking fluid. It seems Citroen want to replace the pipes to fix this and that just replacing the O-ring seals does not work. Citroen also do not sell the seals separately. An additional 2 members, Parkesie and johnfing, have found a leak from the steering column shaft input seal on top of the steering rack, which initially was thought to be the pipe seals. This seal also is not available so replacement racks have been fitted. The column shaft has badly rusted so may be the cause of the leak - applying grease could possibly prevent this. See http://www.citroen-o...uid/?do=findComment&comment=75684 . See also this topic for info on replacing the rack http://www.citroen-o...ent/?do=findComment&comment=81594 There are 2 more cases here and one being caused by corrosion of the rack where the alloy oil pipes connect http://www.citroen-o...-leaking-fluid/ Have a look at this topic from C5greener for another leak point in the piping near the rack http://www.citroen-o...-steering-leak/

C3 Cannot Find Coolant Bleeding Valves
Johndouglas replied to lm5189's topic in General Discussion and Nonsense
Hello & welcome. Sorry I can't help you but my co-moderator Paul has a C3 in his family fleet, so no doubt he will know the answer. Unfortunately he's away for a few days. However his first question will probably be, is the engine petrol or diesel? -

It was interesting to read your comments regarding your car. Your level of satisfaction matches my own. Can't say I miss the hydraulic suspension either. After I returned from Spain last March I got some MAD rear springs since I managed to damage the jockey wheel twice when negotiating speed humps. They've made a vast difference. Our fuel consumptions are similar too. Can't say I like the Myway satnav. Nine times out of ten I opt to use my Tomtom instead.

Are you going to tell us what the fault was?

If you are referring to LDS and fluide DA then yes, they are made to the same PSA spec. Go to the last post on http://www.citroen-owners-club.co.uk/citroen/topic/22834-which-fluid-c5-x7-power-steering/ and see the two spec sheets.

If your battery is anything less than perfect for holding its charge, you're likely to get all sorts of electrical annoyances - a lack of power steering being one of them. With your engine running your battery should be showing around 14.6 volts. Allow it to stand overnight and before you start up you should have at least 12.6. Less than that your battery is on borrowed time. Steering fluid depends on your car's suspension. If you have hydraulic suspension the steering uses the LDS fluid from the hydraulic system. However if the car is on steel springs the steering system has a power steering reservoir which uses Total DA fluid. For practical purposes there is no difference between LDS and DA fluids.
