  1. Excellent news, enjoy the big beauty that is the C5! :)
  2. Can you advise on what type of engine you have, what model of C5? Perhaps post last 8 of VIN number to me. Be aware that the vehicle uses very small amounts of additive at a time. Generally, if there was a fault recorded the car would have let you know! Very common to see the term "DPF Fault" on the dash. Cheers.
  3. In what way is the mirror electric? Perhaps you could post a picture to the forum to assist me in understanding what mirror you have as their is a choice of 3, none of which are electric as far as I am aware. Most should slide out from their securing bracket which is stuck to the windscreen. If the mirror has a large base, there should be a visible line through the center which, with some gentle persuasion, should split in two and it should become obvious how to remove.
  4. Let us know how you get on. Wouldn't be a bad idea to grease up the terminals with something like Vaseline (or just normal grease!) to stop corrosion on the new battery and existing harness to increase it's life.
  5. I'm a 34 year old "motor vehicle technician", or a mechanic! From Scotland, carried out apprenticeship in garage specialising in Peugeot's and Citroen's. Since then, grew a love for the PSA brand even if their cars are only one down on the nightmare scale from Renault. Recently left my job of 16 years after being treated like crap of the bosses. Still have access to my many millions of tools and computer programs for PSA cars so thought I could put them to good use here. Now working for Vauxhall. Found the forum as I have been forced to take some time off work due to a knee injury so been spending a lot of time on the Internet! Owned lots of Citroen's over the years, most of them trade in's to the used car department that I saw potential in a bought up. Currently driving a 2006 C4 Coupe with a C4 Cactus PureDrive S&S (I3 Turbo!) on order and should be handed to me shortly! :) Hope to meet some folk who share same love for PSA cars, and cars in general, as me! Cheers.
  6. Got me interested so done some online searching for you. I have found this on EBay and pricing is pretty sound. Maybe you can compare the pictures to the one you have on the vehicle. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Citroen-2CV-Dolly-AX-Visa-R410-40-45W-12v-Tungsten-Headlight-Bulbs-Sidelights-/270819258697
  7. Having worked on thousands of Citroen's over the years, came across many customers of have lost their key. I use an air hammer to remove the sheer head and put an angled "slot" into the remainder of the bolt. As long as the bolt isn't over tightened, should be able to zip it round with the air hammer and remove with a pair of long nose pliers. Don't use fingers as it get very hot! Once had a customer with a DS3 who tried to drill the bolt out, ended up going squint and destroyed the wheel and hub! Haha! Locking wheel nut key was still in place too!
  8. I'm pretty certain Citroen were putting faults with these right after BBC1's Watchdog gave they a good stone kicking pretty much free of charge.
  9. Is the rubber seal on the connector in good condition? If not, I would advise either repairing or replacing the connector. Wouldn't hurt to get a bit of contact cleaner into the socket on the ECU. Also, ensure no part of the connector is damaged which is not allowing it to go fully home in the socket. Usually, it is either rain water or water from a power washer. Been a few instances of it being a leaky water bottle/washer motor. Usually water from that is found in the under bonnet fuse box and usually manifests itself by different types of signals not working. Check to see if there is any water in the harness itself, as water can travel around a harness as the wires expand and contract with heat. This causes a vacuum which sucks the water about the harness, slowly but surely. I would attend to this sooner rather than later, would be a shame to let any damage to happen to other parts of the engine as a result of poor running. Hope this can help!
  10. A unmodified, standard fitment on a vehicle manufactured in the EU and approved to drive in the UK, cannot, by definition, be illegal. Then again, I'm no sure as to what purpose Citroen have this fitted on their C3 Picasso. Just take the fine and fight it. Technically, you can't lose.
  11. Thank you. Still have access to a lot of my PSA tools, computers and websites etc, so thought I would put it to good use. These THP engines are incredible to drive but are prone to going wrong. Done head gaskets, carried out de-chokes on the inlet valves and replaced full engines several times. Keep an eye on the oil level cause the piston rings are good for failing and Citroen won't sell you new ones so it new engine time.
  12. The old C5 were cracking big cars, especially with a big torquey diesel engine and an automatic box. A proper cruiser! The worst thing about them from a mechanics point of view is the horrific rear split calipers. Horrible design and not been seen since the C5 MK2, thank God! When reconnecting the battery, earth terminal first! Why are you changing the battery, may I ask?
  13. Economy Mode is controlled by the BSI and can be disabled using Citroen Diagnostic Equipment, but this will cause battery drain. As everyone has said, it is used to protect the battery when engine is not running. If the car is brand new, it may have not been configured properly during the Pre-Delivery Inspection by the technician through Diagbox. Also, check the shunt fuse on the BSI (glovebox fusebox). Ensure it is in Client/User mode and not "Parc". Hope this can help some way.
  14. Never had much experience with turbos on 1.9 Diesels. Can you give some more info on what the engine is exactly, DW8, DW8B or XUD engine. Keep in mind not all of these engines had turbos as far as i'm aware. Maybe you can post the last 8 of the VIN and I can confirm for you. As Paul H said, 1.6 DV6 engines are prone to destroying turbos.
  15. Most Relay's i've ever worked on have a 2.2 HDi Ford Engine and are very, very good at blowing head gaskets! There is however, a union for coolant pipes behind the radiator which leaks a lot.
  16. You might find your car doesn't have it! The Owners Handbook is generic for all models.
  17. I'm an ex-mechanic at Citroen main dealer in Scotland. Only left recently and done a few of the timing chains on the DS3 THP engine's. If doing at home you'd be in for a tough time. Citroen don't say you must do this, but I removed the engine and gearbox from the car and done the work with the engine on the bench. Seen one of the other mechanics do the job with the engine in place but never seen someone shout and scream at a car as much since! If confident, engine can be removed in less than and 1.5 hours and will make life a lot easier. I can't remember if the job was respected under warranty, goodwill or anything. Hope this can help a bit!
  18. According to Citroen, switch off the ignition and wait for 3 minutes before disconnecting the battery. I'd maybe wait around 5 minutes just to be safe. Remove the two terminals, starting with the positive terminal. You haven't said what type of C5 but they are all secured one way or another. C5 X7 held in my a 3/8" quarter turn screw, not sure if anything secures the MK1 and MK2 C5's, just lots of trim! Cars from PSA do not require any radio code and all that should be affected by disconnecting the battery is the time and date will be reset and you will need to reconfigure the anti-pinch on the windows if it has one touch electric action. Do this by opening and closing the window one time fully and hold the switch in "close" direction for 2 seconds. You should hear a click from the regulator on the window your a configuring if done correctly. Hope this can help.
  19. If the wiper stops immediately when switching to rest, then usually the wiper motor is on it's way out.
