H Dave If you are handy with the tools then there is no reason you cannot do it. I believe the crank pulley comes adrift from the cam belt pulley behind it, (careful not to let the cam belt pulley slide out, though the tension of the cam belt should stop that) Just remember to torque the pulley nut/bolt up correctly but do NOT use the Cam Belt as a brake to aid tightening the crank pulley. Do not use heat on the new crank pulley nor strike it with a hammer etc. cheers
-
Hi May be a stupid suggestion, but, have you checked the brake fluid level ? If it is slightly down then the sloshing motion could set an alarm off )it certainly does on my C8)
-
Hi Michael If noise is an issue then have you considered Nitrogen instead of Air in the tyres ?
-
hi spookydave Yes the crank pulley will cause the vibration, lots of it. it will/could, also lead to snapping of the timming belt and destruction of your engine.

chukbg Hi, just a word of warning, assuming you do not find any obvious damage to the head, it would be a mistake not to have the head checked, and if necessary, skimmed. More often than not, if a head has been seriously overheated then the likelihood is that the head has warped. Skimming of the head is relatively cheap and certainly worth doing, make sure to buy the next thickness gasket when re assembling after a skim. Make sure to use only new head bolts Just out of interest, a good quick check for a blown head gasket is to start the engine from cold, remove the radiator cap or header tank cap and put a rubber glove over the hole (the thin type of laytex disposable gloves) sealing it around the threads. If you see the fingers of the glove start to inflate then it is a safe bet the head has gone. A more accurate item to use is a condom, which I often use myself but get all sorts of strange questions from her indoors as to why I find it necessary to keep condoms in the workshop

Back Courtesy Light Comes On When Driving Without Warning
Rookie2 replied to Piano Man's topic in Problems and Fixes
Hi If you look at this diagram http://geekgreek.com/downloads/Citroen%20Xsara%20I%20-%20Wiring%20Diagram.pdf of a typical xsara wiring, page 8 item 80, you will see that it is linked to the luggage compartment (boot) switch (item 79) for the boot light. I am uncertain if there is a switch in the boot or not but worth checking that switch as you have to assume that an open switch in the boot will also energise the rear courtesy light. It could be that your boot light is also on but not as noticeable as you have the boot closed cheers -

Adding A Profile Avatar Picture
Rookie2 replied to paul.h's topic in General Discussion and Nonsense
Hi paul, I recently did mine the following... Click "Edit my profile" click "Change my photo" click "Use a custom photo" click "Browse" (Upload from file) click whatever photo you want from your hard drive click "Done" Then go back into the "Edit my profile" and click "Crop" to adjust the picture to suit. I did find that I could not point to a web URL to upload as the photo etc, it had to be on my own hard drive. cheers -
Abs Esp And Handbrake Faulty C4 Grand Picasso
Rookie2 replied to grahamew2's topic in C4 - Technical
I think Coastline is probably correct. If you have dislodged or damaged the abs sensor then the ecu thinks the wheel is still turning when the cat has stopped, or, it thinks the wheel has stopped when the car is moving. Consequently the Electronic Stability programme is thrown out of kilter as is the auto handbrake which is fooled into believing the car is moving when it's not. -

Abs Esp And Handbrake Faulty C4 Grand Picasso
Rookie2 replied to grahamew2's topic in C4 - Technical
Ok Buddy, this may or may not help but it is what I would do if I had the same problem. Theres a company in Bristol called HDi Tuning- remap@hdi-tuning.co.uk The owner is called Steven Lewis, he's a very helpful and friendly guy who only deals in HDi ecu's. I used him to rewrite my C8 ECU and it was all done via email. Send him a message (he is prompt at getting back you), certainly worth a try cheers -
Just a quick tip about this for future reference. If you look on ebay you will see a tool for sale called an "MPPS V16". supplied with a drivers disk and is simple to use. Connect it to your laptop, connect to your cars diagnostic plug and download your ECU info to the laptop. Save it. (process takes about 4 minutes). There are 2 reasons for doing this. 1)... if your ecu info ever gets corrupted or damaged, you have a copy on hand to load back in...2)... if you ever need to alter your ecu info then you have a copy readily available to send to whoever is reprogramming the ecu for you via email.

Abs Esp And Handbrake Faulty C4 Grand Picasso
Rookie2 replied to grahamew2's topic in C4 - Technical
BSI = Built in systems interface, its the part of the car that talks between the ecu and the vehicle systems (or at least thats the way I understand it) Hi Graham, if the above advice does not work then try the following... Disconnect the battery terminals, connect the positive battery lead (Thats the red lead, not the battery terminal) to any good earth on the car for approx 30 seconds. Reconnect the battery and switch on the ignition. At this point you may have to enter the radio code and you will also find that most of the customer applied options (if there were any) have gone back to factory default.. This operation tends to set all options on the car back to what they were when it left the dealers -
Hi busmatt, welcome to the forum.

Hi Johno I think you will find that the Temperature and Mas are combined, they usually are in one unit. cheers

Sorry buddy, just noticed this post. the answer to your question, in my opinion, would be YES. If you can afford to then it would be a very wise move. The contamination of the Turbo oil supply is a gradual thing which increases with the amount of crud built up.

Hi Paul, I've just questioned her indoors and she swears she knows the indicators are working and the sound, she reckons, has nothing to do with normal operation. I wont be able to get outside to have a look until Saturday but just thought I would ask the question in case someone had the answer up their sleeves. Lol. I was beginning to wonder if it was the tyre pressure monitors starting to notice a differential pressure when turning right, but her indoors is certain there is nothing coming up on info screen. cheers

Wife has just come home and told me when she turns right in the C8, she hears a "Peep Peep". No warning lights, nothing on the dash info just a "Peep Peep" once. Anyone got any quick ideas what it could be ? She states the car makes no sound turning left, could it just be a fluid level maybe ?
-
Hi John Not sure which Citroen you have, but all cars with an internal battery usually have a "Live" terminal under the bonnet. Assuming yours has, could you not just put the jump leads on from there, obviously with the earth lead connected to a suitable earth. In the Picasso you should see a black plastic cover with a "+" on it towards the right hand rear of the engine bay.

Fault Codes P0238 And P1351
Rookie2 replied to jean claude van driver's topic in Dispatch - Technical
Ok, I've had as look at that, it is an unbranded one, which is interesting, it seems some work and some dont, might be worth starting to keep a list of cheaper unbranded spares which have been proven to work, as well as a list of those that dont of course. cheers -
Hi I would check the cam shaft sensor and also the LP fuel pump. Take the sensor out and give it a clean (gently)
-
I dont have a C4 buddy, but I can tell you that the mileage you can get out of any car is dependent on how you have looked after it. If the oils and filter are changed regularly and important service issues taken care of, then there is no reason that these engines should not last a lifetime. Of course there is always the exception of a renegade badly built engine, but in general the sky's the limit

Fault Codes P0238 And P1351
Rookie2 replied to jean claude van driver's topic in Dispatch - Technical
Just out of interest, was it a genuine map or and after market cheaper one ?. I only ask because I have had quite a few map failures in the past with cheaper aftermarket ones, so knowing which after market ones actually worked would be a bonus Cheers -
Thanks Paul, happy new year
