  1. Surely its not a problem if its a characteristic of its normal operation? The sensor needs to be imersed in oil to a specific level to give a correct reading on the display. The way it operates is by providing a resistance reading .....the resistance is affected by the level of the oil........hence if you park 2 wheels on the pavement or face down hill it will cause the oil to flow away from the sensor and cause it to show low oil level. Additionally if you stall your car, on re starting it will tell you the level is low because you've spread it round the engine. In the event you over fill the engine with oil this too can give a reading on the display that indicates the oil is low.....so if your dipstick is above the maximum mark it doesnt mean you need to add more!!!!!!! OK...if were going to get all "gramatical" "I experienced this characteristic last week" :) But then it could be a "problem" with the design as I have never experienced this "characteristic" with other vehicles parked in the same spot.... :D
  2. This problem occured on my VTS last week. I was parked on a very steep hill - handbrake up full, left in first gear wheels pointing to the kurb front of the car pointing down hill. As I got back in and started it up it pinged up check oil level. A few times of starting and stopping wouldnt stop it from happening. Giot home and let it stand for an hour to check the oil level (full) got back in the car and was fine. Put it down to the steep hill causing oil level to go below sensor. Hasnt happened since.
  3. The danger with Forums are is that you dont know the tone in which the comments are being made :) These are dangerous places for people to get the wrong end of the stick...which is why I put a smiley at the begining of the previous post. :) The point I was trying to make that the discussion had started to deviate away from Citroen C4 insurance to the finer points price of Westfields, Catherhams and TVR's and could see what happened in the linked post happening, where it went on a tangent to the original post topic - not particulary relevant to the original topic. Not trying to get anyones back up, not trying to create conflict, not creating a coup or take over bid, I'm not intending to start an argument or fussed about having one.... just mearly stating an observation :D Take aim and fire at will if you wish.... :D
  4. Without wishing to sound too rude and not intending to pee anyone off.... :D Can we keep the posts on the subject of C4's? This topic also ended up going off on a tangent.... cheers
  5. Having owned a Focus for 70,000 miles (which I dont consider an unreasonable milage) and MANY serious mechanical failures (I had less serious failures in my first car - 135,000 mile 1987 Mini) with a very unsupportive dealer network I vowed never to purchase another Ford. Still to this day I struggle to see how the Focus EVER obtained the TUV standard of quality, unless I just had a "Friday afternoon car" From the day I bought the car I had nothing problems... I did try the new Focus but didnt cut the mustard for me, to dull, to bland, too plasticy inside and space not as well used as the C4 Besides which everyone has a Focus and makes it difficult to find in large car parks!...Now the C4 on the other hand with its "where am I?" function.....
  6. When I was a skint "spew-dent" I used to earn a few bob or two working in Halfords, yeah we all need to work.....please note I didnt take the job seriously... Talking Epoch 2 - Uniform of Grey Nylon Slacks, Blue Nylon Shirt and clip on tie era- and we used to sell the tinting kits in the long tubes. Cant remember how many times I used to hear "how mint its gonna look", and couldnt help think "how long you'd be on the drive pushing air bubbles about the windows"..... I heard stories of Irons, Hairdriers, Paint guns, pins etc..... Being that most "Wayners" came in the store every weekend you got to watch the "wheels" develop into this accesorised heap of shi*e. Plenty of stories to be told of that place I can assure thee... So what happens when you get fed up with the C4 (heavens forbid) and want to trade it in at a dealer and they give you the bottom price as it aint bog standard?
  7. Window tints have always been a general No No in my book, dont see the attraction in doing it... It has always attracted a "oh gawd look at the state of it" reaction from my mates... Each to their own I guess......"now wheres my Bling....?" :o
  8. Talking of wipers... I'd like to thank the local nugget who decided that I "might" be interested in visting a local tat market (no chance). However they very kindly yanked my passenger wiper further than it needed to go to put the flyer on my windscreen and have scratched the back edge of my bonnet..... Yeah thanks for that. And to make matters worse it rained whilst I was away from the car and the flyer got stuck to the windscreen leaving the print on the window!  :o grrrrrrrrrrrrrr
  9. If it is very intermitant e.g. single click every other min then it could be the air con clutch kicking in although this isnt particulary noisy and I would need to be stood on the outside of the car to hear it. If it is a continual ticking relating to engine speed then it could be the injectors as (i assume) these are actually quite noisy on mine. Not sure if the C4 has hydraulic tappets but this also could be another source of noise. The Air Con on my old Focus made a hell of a racket with the noise of the fan drowning out the engine noise, and the Air Con clutch being heard from the inside. I wouldnt worry to much about it...
  10. To take it to the extreme see here.... Racing drivers can now make a cup of tea, admire the view nd wave to the crowd whilst whizzing around the tracks and not worry about the race.... Fully automated driverless racing....cant think of anything more "exciting"..... ;)
  11. My 5 door VTR+ already has these, what model do you have? My biggest gripe on the 5 door is the stupid position of the reversing light giving very little help in illuminating what is behind you. It is in the same position on a Focus so Focus drivers must have reversing issues as well. Cup holder by the handbrake can only be used when stopped as it obstructs the handbrake when you have anything in it. Rear wiper only has intermittant function, have found this annoying in heavy rain as you cannot clear the rear screen. Good points Eats up motorway miles Over 600 miles per tank Friendly helpful owners forum ;) Ian Black 55 VTR+ 3 door VTS, it doesnt have height adjustment on both front seats.....
  12. There are a couple of things you could use but wouldnt recommend it... One is the sticky stip used to stick on trim panels on cars. Clean both surfaces with Meths and then stick on. Only problem is that is quite thick. DONT use Nail Polish remover (May smell similar but contains Acitone and may melt plastic) or Turps as this will leave an oily residue. The other is a flexible silicon based adhesive such as Fosroc Nitoseal MS100, will cost £££ is only avalible in white or grey. Dont use No Nails type products....will again melt plastic especially containing polyethene. I'd get the dealer to do it. The more times you go back the more times they'd be fed up of seeing your face so will eventually do the job properly...thats the theroy anyway! ;)
  13. Billynibbles I wouldnt recommend using any adhesives to stick the plastic trim back on, take it back to the dealer. A friend of mine used to have a "scort" with the old foam pad fixing for the rear view and inevitably fell off every summer. He had a bright idea that perhaps if he used Superglue to stick it back on, it would never fall off. Unfortunatly the next time the windscreen was in the sun,it heated up the windscreen and found that the expansion rates of the various materials between glass and plastic were different and cracked the windscreen top to bottom. Apart from warenty issues, you also do not know the effect of the glue on the plastic. If the trim plastic has a high polyethene content there is little chance of sticking it with anything other than a butanol based adhesive which will "melt" a layer of the plastic to stick, and would also need a similar type material to stick too....This would attack anyfinish applied to the trim and "weather" sealants. Uhu glue would probably melt the glass sealants, attack the finish of the plastic but not actually stick it, and will come "unstuck" in no time at all in the elements e.g. expansion, rain. It would end up looking worse than having a saggy trim.
  14. 20,000miles is only a year for me, so this is very good news. I did consider buying another Audi or Skoda which uses variable servicing, as they use 'fully synthetic oil' and service intervals can be up to 24,000 miles depending on how you drive. My old Audi A4 had 10,000 miles servicing which is crazy for the mileage I do, as it's 2 services per year. Megabucks, even for the independant dealers. Not really, as far as I understand what it says in the manual, 20,000 miles a year is classed as heavy use so would reuire the Heavy Use 12,500mile service p.a. Its not particulary clear and confused me more when the dealer put in his two peneth worth.... As far as I understand the intervals are Light Use - 20,000/ 2 years Heavy Use - every 12,500miles Make of the terminology what you will. Heavy use could be deemed a year of stop start traffic 365days a year, or ragging the rev limiter everytime you use the motorway... :P But then light use could be using the car every three days to go to the shops, but then I would class that as heavy as the car is getting minimal use, but increased wear from the shorter journeys/ short warm up times. Me personally I would call that heavy use... Still non the wiser as to why my VTS displays 10000miles till next service if I'm on a 20,0000 mile intervall, yet only covered 2000 miles since the service. Perhaps this indicator is calculated by the vehicle computer? ;) Still confused of Bristol
  15. Just out of curiosity...I tried this in the VTS.... ;) Set Cruise to regulate.... Get yourself up to 30mph and in 4th gear and then just hold down the + button...and keep holding it! Instead of going up in single digits, it goes up multiples of 5mph and as you can imagine you make progress at quite a reasonable pace! :P
  16. Disagree :D 80% of the time the brakes are good have good feel and are predictable. 20% of the time the same foot pressure results in me being snatched in the seatbelt..... I find this happens at lower speed.... Oh another gripe.... Citroen...Please, please, please fit adjustable height seat belt on future models for my own sake...it digs into the other halfs neck  All I get is..... *huff*.....*puff*....*cuss*...."ouch"..."this (insert expletive here) seatbelt.....*huff*...."Gawwwd"...... and so on <_< At this point I increase the stereo volume.... As you can imagine this is particulary tiresome on a 2.5 hour drive to Dorset
  17. There are plenty good points the only areas that I think "need a bit more work" <_< are... (not necessarily bad) 1. The central arm rest deciding to extend by itself when braking, slowing, stopping, car moving.......poor quality control 2. Snatchy brakes 3. Gear shift not as good as it could be - inherited from another car These items don’t put me off buying another, I put it down as a trait of the car....all cars have them Foot note, I have never had a car before where I have been stopped to talk about it by so many people with pleasant comments. The C4 has looks to kill.
  18. Petrol VTS, I notice in the manual (cant think of the exact wording) but it says light use reccommended 20,000 heavy 12,000miles.... I wondered if they gave me the lower service to get me back to the dealer with the spondooolies... The car was supposed to have been "PDI'd" but i think all they did was kicked the tyres vacummed out the boot and that was about it. When I switched on the lights for the first time they failed.... <_<
  19. A very simplistic view but... If you are using checklists which are out of date, is it not simply a case of keeping a copy of the model brochures for reference of which functions to enable? If it is as simple of "ticking boxes" you go down the list to enable the functions that are relevant to the model... If it is model specific it gets turned on (ooer) if it is something that the owner can turn on/off e.g. steerable headlamps turn them on and then the user can turn them off if they want. <_< Not wishing to labour the point, but I still cant get my head round why this is the dealers job to enable the functions...with a work force of mechanics I'd rather have them sorting out the "real" issues such as recalls and service/repairs, and ultimatly customer satisfaction, than tweeking knobs and whistles fine tuning the functions that should have come out of the factory....
  20. Welcome to the forum
  21. Having covered comming up to 1500miles in the VTS something has twigged. The pre-owned VTS was dealer serviced prior to delivery. (very dubious about this but I'll take their word for it). When I bought the car the dealer informed me that the service intervals are 20,000miles/ 2years. However when I turn on the ignition, the "miles to next service" indicator indicates 10500miles. <_< Does this mean that they have given me a "half service"?!  :D Confused of Bristol
  22. citroenc4.org.uk vote for me Afterall the topic is pick a web address for a C4 Owners Club We wouldnt want to single out the lower range non sporting models......would we? <_<
  23. Gggggrrrrrrr I'm going to moan - sorry  Can I ask, what is the point of publishing details of these functions in sales brochures and vehicle user manuals, but not actually enabling them on the vehicle?! <_< What is the point of selling something that has a "feature" only to find it is disabled...for what reason?! I can understand and see that some vehicles "functions" are country specific. I believe a function is a legality related item, Scandinavian driving lights for example and I can see why this isn’t enabled in the UK.....you’ll look like a Volvo. "Features" are what sell the car, or the text in the brochure does...as the demo car "doesn’t have that feature enabled!” Production wise I can understand the benefit of Citroen using a standard wiring loom for vehicles fitted with and without front fog lights, its cheaper to produce one loom than two different ones, standardisation is one key element to cheaper production and support. Fitting features but not enabling them is madness! It’s like buying a pair of trousers with pockets only to find that they are there only stitched up. To use them you have to unstitch them! I just don’t see the logic that Citroen have adopted. Surely this is just costing Citroen in terms of man hours/labour and wasted service bay space, which could be used more effciently to satisfy the dissatisfied owners who are on recall number 365, or getting the leaky Pluriel attended too. Its also not helping Citroen customer relations either! B*tch winge over :D
  24. Mine juddered when I got my VTS but has now settled down. Being that it has has 10000 miles put on it by someone else who "may" have had a different style of driving e.g. heavy on the clutch, I have put it down to this. Also if it was used for town driving this would use the clutch more than a 30mile motorway commute. The judder was especially apparent when reversing up the slope in to the garage. 2000miles on and its fine and its no probs judder gone. If it comes back then it will be going back to the dealer after all clutches should last longer than a trip to the shops! :D
  25. Thats the button on the end of the wiper stalk to reset the trip computer. Short presses of this cycles between real time consumption reading, Trip 1 and Trip 2. Long press resets. The use of Trips is described in the manual as Trip 1 - reset everyweek for weekly readouts Trip 2- reset every month for monthy readouts
