moor1e Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 Hi FolksI have recently purchased a C5 2.0 HDI VTR model, its a 2005 facelift. I have hads it back to the garage on numerous occasions. First off a fuel leak which new fuel senders were fitted, CURED , then a shudder developed, now this is the BIG problem I have. At 2000 - 2500 revs the car shuuders, it is not thru the steering, well it is slightly but thru the whole car more, I have had the garage fit 4 new matching tyres, the alloys have been sent away and checked, they have fitted 2 new driveshafts, air flow meter, but to no avail, does anyone have any idea what this could be, to me i say its engine but garage say its not as nothing showing on their PC as any faults. Iam getting fed up with this as i drive at 60-65 miles an hour mostly motorway in 6th which as yous know is just over the 2000 revs so have the shudder constant, it does it in any gear at these revs and it does not matter what speed you do, its only when it hits these revs, after these revs the car is fine and pulls well. ALSO i have an issue with fuel, the best i have ever got is 38 to the gallon which i feel is low considering Citroen state 47 to the gallon combined, yes i know all the storys driving habits etc, but i do not go above 65 on motorway driving each day. I feel i canot change into 6th gear until the car is over 60mph which should not be right or is it, if in 6th and it drops below 60 i feel there is no power there if you acceleratate to overtake and have to drop a gear. SAYING THIS do not get me wrong as stated 38 IS THE BEST I HAVE GOT on average i get about 35. I have only had the car about 6 weeks and feel its been in the garage more than ive had it. They cannot find whats causing the shudder and feel they are throwing money at it for no reason, about 2 weeks ago they asked me to take it back and drive it till the shudder got worse, which it has not but is still the same, so its back in AGAIN ysterday to see if they can cure it, they were going to send it to Citroen for the fuel thing but coz i sadi i got 38 to the gallon thay are not and said 38-40 is about right I DONT THINK SO, they have gave me a CIVIC 1.8 petrol which i got 52 to the gallon today. PLEASE SOME ONE GET BACK TO ME WITH ANY IDEAS OF THE SHUDDER AND FUEL ISSUES !!!!!!aS I HAVE SAID THE SHUDDER IS ONLY AT 2000 - 2500 REVS AND MOSTLY 3RD, 4TH, 5TH AND 6TH GEARS AFTER IT GOES THRU THESE REVS THE CAR IS FINE. Randombloke Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 Have you checked the front brakes for binding? Have you measured the run out on the front discs? (This would affect your economy and shudder) Are there any fault codes for the injectors? (shudder) Have you completely checked the inlet side for air leaks (this would affect your performance). Checked out the EGR and the swirl control valve? Could it be a problem with the dual mass flywheel? Coastline, what's your take on this? Does it shudder when revved up whilst stationary with the gearbox in neutral? If so, it's engine balance. Have you asked then to run up the engine with the auxiliary belts disconnected? If you drop the car off at my house I'll put 2,000 miles on it for you. The shudder will surely get worse.... then they can fix it. Time to find a good indy and pay them for an opinion. You in South Shields? - pm Coastline. Quote
paul.h Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 On the fuel consumption, if not already done, I would reset the trip meter to zero (hold in the button on the end of the wiper stalk) and see what you get as instantaneous values and each trip. If not reset then the values you are seeing are what the previous owner was getting. If like the C4, the trip meter only goes to 10000 km (about 6400 miles) and then does not change until reset. We have a mark 1 2.2 hdi (similar power/torque to the mark 2 2.0 hdi) and change into 6th gear below 50 mph (or 50 with the caravan on the back) and it pulls ok so being a diesel you can use the low revs high torque as opposed to a petrol that needs more revs. I usually get about 50 to 53 mpg on motorways doing about 65 mph in none windy conditions. The round town mpg is about 36 for your car. The shudder sounds as if it could be the dual mass flywheel that needs replacing based on posts on this site but I also remember something similar due to an injector problem. How many miles has the car done ? Quote
coastline taxis Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 Where you getting your fuel from. If we go to morrison although its cheaper we get less miles to the gallon in fact if we go to shell we seem to get a extra 6 miles per gallon (based on filling tank right up full then doing a hundred miles then topping it back up). As for the shudder weve had this twice and and both were different causes 1 was the front (rear) wishbone bushes And the second was the ride hieght adjustment. The c5 should drop the front end dowm to lower the center of gravity and increase stability normaly around 60ish (which is roughly 2 to 3 thoushand rpm). if they use there scanner and go into live data on the body/suspension side and take it for a drive they should see it lower. Just a fwe questions first though1 can you tell if its front or back or which side2 did you check to see if its been in a accident3 have the alloys been balanced3 what is the milage on it and has it had a clutch replaced if so sheck that all the bolts have been replaced in the bell housing and check geardox mountings and as already been sugested the dual mass flywheel although the dual mass would do it when stationary as well. I would start with what random has suggests but drop the car of at ours and well put 20k on a lot quicker for you Quote
DaveHerns Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 I think I would put on record that the car is not of merchantable quality so you can reject it and go for a refundThe longer you leave it , the harder it will be Quote
