Dircon Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 Hello,I have decided to update the Firmware of my Sat/Nav.My car is a 2001, C5 Exclusive SE V6.This is how I failed to manage the task:1) I started the engine.2) I removed my Map Disc.3) I inserted my, (Official, and I assume correct, it came with the car), Firmware Disc.4) A message on the Main Display, (I have the large colour screen), showed me details re' Firmware and CD. It also asked if I wanted to Install.5) I chose Yes.6) A message was displayed, which was along these lines, "Please be patient. Installing is taking place".7) I then waited, patiently, for approx' 20 minutes. However, nothing further occurred.8) I switched of the Ignition.9) I restarted the engine.10) Once again the message was displayed, asking if I wanted to Install.11) This time I answered No. I was then asked to eject the Firmware Disc.12) I then reinserted my Map Disc.13) My Sat/Nav then functioned as normal. However, no update had occurred.Sorry about the long winded list above.Has anyone successfully managed to Update their Sat/Nav Firmware? If so, how did you do it?Many thanks for any assistance.Paul Quote
pdjones Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 Not sure what you meant by firmware. Do you mean the OS for the Navidrive onboard computer? I updated that and it was a heart stopper (hoping it would work) and it did. Just followed the onscreen instructions, the main one being, Do Not turn of the ignition while the update is under way. That was for some software I found on a torrent on the web. Anyway, it did update but rather unimpressively and so hardly worth the risk I took. Quote
Randombloke Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 I did the update a long time ago on a Mk1 2.2HDi. The display said there was newer software on the CD, and asked if I wanted to update. Whilst the update was in progress there was a progress bar like the one you get with a software install, I watched it go to the end and then it said the job was done, and told me to press the "Eject" and the system would reboot. Progress bar like this: http://kb.epson-europe.com/pf/12/webfiles/Article%20Images/All-In-One%20Inkjet/SX405%20Wi-Fi/Edimax%20Mac%2016.jpg However, unless you have newer software than came with your vehicle, or you opt to change language or something like that, how do expect to see a difference? You are just installing the same thing over what you already have? Quote
Dircon Posted May 31, 2013 Author Posted May 31, 2013 I thought I would try to update the Firmware, as I have a problem with my Sat/Nav. Basically, it works perfectly but, it forgets any Saved Destination as soon as the Ignition is switched off. I have been told that it may be in Demo Mode, and that by Updating the Firmware it will reset. Any ideas? Many thanks, Paul Quote
paul.h Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 I have just seen this note in the Navi Drive handbook of our 2007 C5 - if your navi drive should malfunction, press for at least 10 seconds on the DARK button to re-initialise the system. The dark button is on the radio unit. Quote
paul.h Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 If you look at the parts diagrams it shows a battery pack for the radio memory, so maybe this is the problem, it might need replacing. You can see the parts on the service.citroen website, as an other professional, member of the Citroen Owners Club. Look under Electric unit, car radio and 56 is a battery pack. Use your car VIN to get the right part no. Quote
dirkzobb Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 Hi Paul,I'm having problems with recently purchased 2007 C5 Exclusive - basically sometimes it works and sometimes not - just displays the Citroen screen. I haven't tried the Dark reset - seems to remember everything - radio presets, phone numbers etc so probably not the battery. Any ideas gratefully received. Regards, Derek Quote
paul.h Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 I can not help much with the screen other than to suggest to check the handbook for any possible fuses to check, check the radio connections at the back, try the reset, may be try a car battery disconnection/reconnection (follow the procedure in the C5 Technical section Common problems pinned post), check with a Citroen dealer. However, other members may be able to offer some help. Quote
dirkzobb Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 Hi, Tried the reset trick and seems to have worked thanks - may have been something to do with video as this icon was ghosted on menu before reset but now comes up as it should. It's running version 7.02 - is it worth upgrading to 8.31? I've found a download RT4-5_SW8.31.iso which I can burn to CD. How do I install it? Regards, Derek Quote
