harry bozing Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 Good evening everyone, I have just bought a 56 reg hdi 2.0 vtr estate, every time I unlock the car by the remote the glass section pops open, it will close ok but if I open the passenger front door the glass will pop open again, also when I activate the rear washers, the fronts come on and the rears don't work. Can anyone please shed a little light on these niggles. Many thanks. Quote
Randombloke Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 I had the glass popping open problem and have posted a detailed fix here, you'll have to search the forum. It's usually that the micro-switch that operates the rear window needs replacement IMV. The rear and front washers run off the same pump, rear is done when the pump runs in one direction and front when it runs in the other direction. Again, details on the forum from a while ago but you will need to run a search. Quote
paul.h Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 The washer problem is possibly the washer tank connection or piping to the rear wiper or maybe the washer jet is blocked with muck. So though the pump is running in reverse, the only outlet is to the front wipers. Quote
harry bozing Posted June 16, 2013 Author Posted June 16, 2013 Thank you Randombloke and Paul.h I'll have a good search through and will post my findings when I get it sorted. There are only a few niggles to what is otherwise a great car. Thanks again. Quote
paul.h Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 the washer tank connection Should have read washer pump connection. The washer pump has 2 outlets, 1 to the front and 1 to the rear wipers but only 1 inlet from the tank. So the pump outlet to the rear wiper or its piping could be blocked. I will add this to the common problems list since it has appeared before. Quote
harry bozing Posted June 22, 2013 Author Posted June 22, 2013 Good evening everyone, well today I had a go at the glass screen problem, I removed the plastic cover which is fitted over the wiper on the inside of the glass and unplugged the wiring, but the car wouldn't lock so I reconnected it and unplugged the solenoid wiring from inside the tailgate which worked, the glass screen is now locked permanently, which will suit me for now. I tried to remove the cover form the wiper arm/micro switch but it wouldn't budge. Does anyone know of a way to get this cover off safely? thanks again. Quote
paul.h Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 I have not removed the wiper cover but if you do break it in your attempts, Citroen list it as a spare part and probably unlikely to be expensive - part no. 6405K4 and the switch is 6405K35 Quote
harry bozing Posted June 23, 2013 Author Posted June 23, 2013 Thank you for that paul.h,I'll keep those part numbers safely in case of breakages, the next thing to cure is the car sinking at the rear after being stood for a few hours, never a dull moment. Quote
DaveHerns Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 From memory the sinking at the rear is caused by fluid leaking past the seals on the rear legsCheck and see if there's much fluid in the return pipes Quote
harry bozing Posted July 5, 2013 Author Posted July 5, 2013 Thank you for that, it sinks down at the rear almost fully overnight, I have to be careful where I park so that the rear bumper won't settle on something like a kerb and possibly cause it to pop some of it's clips off. If I get the chance over the weekend I'll check it out, thanks again. (Edited paul.h - words were all crossed out) Quote
paul.h Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 If the rear struts are in good condition, Citroen sell the seals so a complete strut would not be needed. The labour though is not much different to strut replacement and a dealer probably would not be able to guarantee a repair unless a new strut was fitted - so only applies if doing a diy repair. You would also need a new gaiter clip and lds fluid. Quote
harry bozing Posted July 6, 2013 Author Posted July 6, 2013 thank you for editing my post,it appeared like that as I was typing and then carried over as I posted it. Today has been too hot for me to venture out and check the car, but at the first opportunity I will check it out . Should the car rise up when I open the door or does it need to be started up first? Thanks again. Quote
DaveHerns Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 Mine had this problem when it was under guarantee so I assume I got a new strut fitted .It took the garage quite a while to find the problem Quote
Johndouglas Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 . Should the car rise up when I open the door or does it need to be started up first? The pump levels the car as soon as it's unlocked. No need to start the engine. Quote
harry bozing Posted July 15, 2013 Author Posted July 15, 2013 This heat we are experiencing at the moment keeps me inside a lot,so I cannot do much, but I managed to check if the car rises up without starting it up and it does rise up, but it takes about 90 seconds to do so. I would imagine that it takes so long to rise up as the car sinks down by a good 6 inches overnight. Quote
